My parents have to fly Dublin to Chicago and then onto DFW due to not being able to fly from London with their cats. I know that when I went to the US via Dublin nearly 9 yrs ago with my pup, there was a Homeland security check at the airport and I didn't get questioned again in Chicago. Is this going to be the same for my parents or will their true POE when they hand over their envelope be at Chicago?

POE is handled at Dublin still.

They will walk of the plane at Chicago and straight to baggage claim with maybe a small trip via the nice customs people.

I went through Dublin. Made things easier.

How does it work at Dublin then, i'm contemplating flying from London Luton to Dublin, then Dublin onto to Washington Dulles

Is there a section that you go to at Dublin before boarding the plane?

Dublin has 2 departure gates (maybe more now. I think the airport has expanded) for the US. On the way to the departure gate you enter a large room that is basically US immigration and inspection. manned by CBP officers etc.

You do everything here you would do state side except it is on Irish soil. Once you pass through inspection you are physically at the departure gates.

One thing from memory there are only two small places to get a drink/food after inspection and the gate area gets cramped when it fills up with people.

The upside is, once you touch down you walk straight past CBP and into baggage claim. You will also get dirty looks from people lined up at inspection State side, wondering what make you so damn special. LOL

Thank you, goodnight and may your gods go with you",

Thank you for this, i never knew at Washington there was a separate section that completely bypassed CBP, never noticed it before  maybe i will fly via Dublin!

I'm flying through Dublin this time too, sick of having to go up to Heathrow and also the long immigration queues at Boston Logan!

I do not think I explained it right. if your point of entry is Dublin, then when you land at Washington, people "de - planing" (sorry I have to admit that is a terrible Americanism, but when in Rome etc) will be escorted passed CBP to the baggage claim area. There will be other people from other flights who WILL have to go through CBP at Washington but not you.

I'm contemplating doing this because the flight is so much cheaper, but the connection time is 3 hours max. I don't think that is enough time to deplane at Dublin, go through their immigration, recheck my luggage, find where to go, then go through US immigration with a visa to process.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

I don't think you have to recheck your luggage at Dublin, do you?

My fiancé (the USC) didn't have to when she flew home recently.

3 hours is ample time. If you book all flights on one ticket with Aer Lingus then they'll check your luggage through to the final destination (US) so you won't need to recheck it (or yourself).

You disembark, walk down a really long corridor until you arrive at the immigrations desk. Turn left instead of walking towards those desks, go past the transfer desk, through the mini-security they have there and then look at the big screen to find which gate you need to go to.

When you start seeing signs for pre-clearance, follow those. You'll go through customs and immigration at the desk (longest this has ever taken me is about 20mins, there's not usually much of a queue...might take a bit longer with the visa POE stuff though) then go through another mini-security. Once you're through you'll be in the gate area ready to hop on the plane to the US :)

I was really nervous the first time I did this, but honestly it's really easy. Even when I've booked my flights on separate tickets and had to collect my luggage then check it and me back in, I've never even been close to being late for the plane. Dublin airport isn't that big compared to Heathrow etc.
