NVC Checklist on Birth Certificate

Hello all,

Yesterday rcvd a checklist from NVC on my parents birth certificate. As they were born in 1950's their birth was not registered and we did submit a Notarized affidavit using their Secondary school leaving certificate issued in 1960's with place and date of birth. In India, on the school certificate they mention only father's name not mother's name.

NVC say nooooooooooooooo for this document now - they asking for sworn affidavit preferably from mother, i.e., grandparent - btw all my grandparents passed away or other option is a close relative who has been present at the time of their birth during 1950's that crazy - my parents were the eldest in the family all other siblings were born after them.

What is my choice - can someone provide a solution for this headache.

Non availability certificate from local body where births are normally registered and 2 affidavits from elderly relatives of your parents should be adequate.

Why would you need the intending immigrant's parents' birth certificates? That is not part of a standard civil documents package.

You need affidavits from two individuals (two for each parent). These individuals must be older than your parents. They will basically state that your father (or mother) was born to (your grand parents name here) on such and such date in this facility (hospital/ home) at address xxxx. He/she was present at this time during their birth at the hospital. The affidavits must be notarized.

Along with that could try to get a No Birth Records Available certificate from the municipality/corporation.

Thank you all and my personal thanks to bkghosh.

Most relatives who are older than my parents have got deceased and some already living abroad. Need to do some research now ..it's gonna be tough but don't have any choice.

My next question is - whether the relative has to appear in front of magistrate to do this affidavit or we can get a written document signed from them and get it notarized. Do we have to provide any identity of the people who giving this affidavit.

Nobody answered my same question either but I'm thinking this topic is posted in the wrong forum. It appears to be, not a spouse case but a filing for parents. It would be nice if somebody would clarify that.

Yes they want my parents birth certificate - its a requirement.

Is it your parents who are immigrating? Originally, you posted this in the IR1/CR1 forum. If parents are immigrating, of course you'll need their birth certificates or an acceptable substitute. I was just confused because you posted in a spouse visa forum.
