But I don't think anybody thought the product was funny. We were having a fun conversation that had drifted away from the original topic.

I just really wish you could relax a bit. This much anger is not good.

I have to disagree. its good entertainment for everyone else.

See I gotta disagree with you there. I didn't have a choice of being born and raised where I was. None of your images were of an actual slave or at least that I recall. If one was a picture of a black slave, you'd be correct. Instead, they're both images of embarrassing stereotypes, based in some truth, from our race's past and present.

If you don't think that Northerners don't completely discount southerners immediately upon hearing an accent or learning where you're from, you're in denial. A non-regional accent alone is enough to lose a job interview against another equally talented person with a regional accent. Some people from "the coasts" think all Kentuckians are that image I posted. Not all, but some.

I gather most people won't touch this but I will.

Those images are offensive they are not funny to most people including Whites.

Anyone else think racist caricatures are funny? I know you and Smoke do. What about you Teddy? You rocking a Black lawn jockey at your crib? What about you BJ, you got a Sambo salt and pepper shaker on your kitchen table?

Hate to break it down to you GandD but if these things were funny the cartoon Lazy Town would still be playing on Saturday mornings. It's on YouTube GandD let me know what your favorite part is.

I think most people who think this stuff is funny are either racists or just completely out of touch with how these images were used to dehumanize Black people and made it easier for common folk not to step up and say something.

The Nazis did it to Jews. Cartoons, images depicting them as Devils and so forth. It's easier to destroy people when you don't consider them as being human.

Maybe this where we will just have to leave it be.

And for the record I have no problem standing alone with the other divide and conquer comments of me vs "all the sensible joking people". Seriously f u all with a smile of course wouldn't want to come across as being angry.

You know the whole reason I even thought this was a troll thread was the blaming white Americans for a clearly racist Thai street cleaning machine. That's it. I don't think we've ever directly been blamed to all the world's views of black until now. Maybe I'm not looking at it right.

I do think this particular image has been imported, as it is foreign to Thailand. I don't think it was necessarily imported by individuals, though it is possible, but is an exoticism that comes about from media, movies, and the like. This image connotes class, cleanliness, order, and domestic bliss in an American way. I am not sure if the slavery that it took to get that domestic bliss is widely understood in Thailand. Or maybe it is perfectly is.

Probably. I see no way to meet anywhere on this. Way too far apart. I'm like the Nazi's, I know.

FTR, I'm handling this a lot better than you.

Man that is where you are wrong. GandD thought it was funny, well most of the stereotypes. That was my whole point before the White liberal Free Willy brigade joined in the conversation.

Damn I'd rather have a conversation with exexpat, Danno, uncle beer and lost than you wishy washy mfs. At least I know where they stand

See I can joke too. Was it funny?

Uh - this is marketing 101 - folk in Thailand like the brand, know the brand, will purchase when they see the brand. I suggest anyone reading this, to address the lack of linkage in Thailand, where this is culturally offensive in the USA. Don't discuss that it's culturally offensive in the USA - that's a given.

Discuss, instead, this lack of linkage, why this brand has market share in ThaiLand.

Why? everything else about it being culturally offensive in the USA has been written about, in prior topics, so why be repetitive ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

You should just stick with angry. Leave funny to the rest of us.

I see a whole lot of presumption here about what other members "must" think in the absence of actual proof and in the presence of assertions to the contrary. It's actually rather offensive, and if I were the reporting type, I'd push the button.

Now I know I know why all those asian people are afraid of my black butt, I should be cleaning their floors instead of walking on them!

I would bet that they were. Look at how racist Japanese culture has been towards people of African descent. My uncle who served in WW2 told me that the White GIs used to tell the locals that the Black soldiers had tails like monkeys. It's not like you have ever historically had African people living in SE Asian countries and I know specifically that the name of the dessert in the Philippines had to come about during US occupation. But these specific images in the OP are distinctly American in nature. When were Blacks ever serving or cleaning houses in Thailand? Ummm never. Where did they get that? I guess if you really want to get down to it, find out who started the company that makes the product.

I think the spew is misquided, not focusing on the marketing done in ThaiLand and what steps might be taken to prevent future mishaps.

Still, is nice to read the vitriol, even when it's misguided.

I pray no handphones were damaged when writing responses back. That would suck.

1) I'm just pointing out that in a subtle way he was defending the images by trying to equate some hillbilly caricature to caricatures used as a device to humiliate Black people.

2) GandD also is on the record for saying he thinks most of those images of Blacks are funny.

3) You been busting my balls ever since what the uppity thread?

(I've had my own clash with Jinx....so I can relate with those resisting his "charm". He charmed me & reported me into a 2 day suspension when I gave back his spoon of medicine.....but...) A few posts prior to this 1.. Jinx clearly stated the images in op offended him. He apparently did not think it a non - issue & fodder for humor. I suppose that set him off into this brick wall won't budge ....rigid attitude. & I suppose I shouldn't minimize his outrage regarding & sensitivity to... the images. ....I suppose for a moment...in spite of his lack of "VJ team spirit"...I feel empathy.

I apologize for my presumptiveness....., But I am genuinely curious....,

1) G&D...True or False?

2) G&D ...True or False?

3) Teddy...True or False? (btw...thank you for my very 1st plus 1 - ever - from you...I felt a slight tickle in my nethers...teehee.)

FWIW - (I have stated before = I like the contrasting opinions expressed in this forum = educational)....The man became the target of a VJ gang bang today....perhaps if we isolate this incident...he might deserve a cut of slack....?

(or)...Perhaps Jinx should realize his personality is a bit of oil in the VJ water...?

My vote? I'm with Smoke = Jinx provokes thought and his direct punch you in the face communication style makes VJ more funner = Move aside and let the man come through...let the man come through..& then tape a kick me sign on his backside...he's obviously up for the challenge. & yes..report his azz when he goes to name calling. He did me. so #### him...lol...I learned a lesson when he reported me....after all. Seems most of us have to learn the same lesson...?
