I wasn't joking. The stereotype drawing is funny in its absurdity, that's how some jokes work. That doesn't mean I think its a true representation of black people any more than the hick stereotype is descriptive of me.

You are missing the point. (can I say that or is that condescending?)

Those images of Buck, Aunt Jemima, Sambo were not meant to be used as jokes. To you maybe they are, to me and 99.9% of Black people they are offensive. It is not the same as a drawing of a hillbilly. It doesn't hold the same historical context.

The people who portrayed those images in minstrels didn't have a choice. Those were the only roles they could get.

You can be a nice guy, and yadda yadda yadda but I'm going to point out to you and everyone else on VJ when I think you are wrong and CHALLENGE your thought process.

Now Bj and Teddy are clearly talking out their collective arses bc they probably had no context to which I was engaging you on in a conversation between you and me based on a previous statement you made that I challenge you on. That's fine too :)

See I gotta disagree with you there. I didn't have a choice of being born and raised where I was. None of your images were of an actual slave or at least that I recall. If one was a picture of a black slave, you'd be correct. Instead, they're both images of embarrassing stereotypes, based in some truth, from our race's past and present.

If you don't think that Northerners don't completely discount southerners immediately upon hearing an accent or learning where you're from, you're in denial. A non-regional accent alone is enough to lose a job interview against another equally talented person with a regional accent. Some people from "the coasts" think all Kentuckians are that image I posted. Not all, but some.

I think everybody who has posted in this thread agrees that the topic is totally absurd. The "black man" cleaning. None of us agrees with it. We all know the opinion of each other, so there's no need for any of us to lecture the others on how wrong racism is.

If you reread the whole thread, you'll notice that the posts from Marvin, Janelle, myself, GandD, Teddy, and others are mostly humorous. Some of us like to be able to laugh every once in a while. It's okay to laugh, every post doesn't have to be a Malcolm X speech.

And no, I'm not putting you on ignore. What's the point of that?

I don't find it funny. I'm not like you guys.

Given the often hostile atmosphere towards Blacks in most of the posts here, excuse me if I didn't "get it". But to a further point my responses to GandD in particular is based on another thread where he said he found those images funny.

I did not call anyone any names. I did not display any expressions of hatred or violence, just challenging people's views I disagree with.

Now I hope this isn't a case of an intelligent Black man opening his mouth to state an opinion and some White people getting nervous. I mean that has never happened in the history of the world before right? God forbid that person be labeled an agitator, trouble maker, uppity n****er, angry black man with a chip on his shoulder.

But I don't think anybody thought the product was funny. We were having a fun conversation that had drifted away from the original topic.

I just really wish you could relax a bit. This much anger is not good.

The problem lies in the peoples views whom you chose to challenge. It's very evident you do not know their views at all.

As for the rest, cry me an effin river.

I also gave you a very long explanation and then again today of why I thought that was funny. I guess myself, Dave Chappelle, and Bernie Mac are all racist. God if you think I'm racist, this must be a difficult world for you. And your "intelligent mouth statements" are not making me nervous. AND, I haven't labeled you anything.

omg - back at post #1 -

I have that same exact mop bucket in my house.

Sure, it was bought at a chinese store in Houston, and that 'brand' is nowhere to be seen on it.

Amazeballz.

but back to post #1

Uh - this is marketing 101 - folk in Thailand like the brand, know the brand, will purchase when they see the brand. I suggest anyone reading this, to address the lack of linkage in Thailand, where this is culturally offensive in the USA. Don't discuss that it's culturally offensive in the USA - that's a given.

Discuss, instead, this lack of linkage, why this brand has market share in ThaiLand.

Why? everything else about it being culturally offensive in the USA has been written about, in prior topics, so why be repetitive ?

Maybe I should post some insensitive images of women relegated to the domestic arts that offend mine feminist eye.

What? Women are known to cook and clean? Gosh by golly, when did that happen, I completely missed it!
