I never said or even implied that. But if you are offended for me pointing out the origins of caricatures of Blacks around the world whose origins are from Jim Crow then be prepared to be offended more often from my posts. I aims to please

Are you always this uptight, or do you save it all up for us here on VJ? GandD is one of the most friendliest peeps on here.

I'm not. I don't offend very easily.

The origins aren't from Jim Crow. They seem straight up slavery, house butler, to me.

I'm not uptight what gave you that impression. I'm sure Paula Deen is friendly too and can cook some delicious Mac n cheese what's your point?

I didn't call GandD anything. I'm just pointing out that in a subtle way he was defending the images by trying to equate some hillbilly caricature to caricatures used as a device to humiliate Black people. So now I'm the bad guy :)

GandD also is on the record for saying he thinks most of those images of Blacks are funny. Who am I to get upset at what other people find funny. He could be dancing to AL Jolsten records in front of a mirror in tighty whities for all I care. Point is don't make me out to be the bad guy by providing the historical context of the OP. It was White people that started it. Do I blame all White people today for it? No. Do I think all White people condone it, of course not.

I write my own narrative, don't need you to write it for me Teddy. You been busting my balls ever since what the uppity thread?

Well in terms of these caricatures what difference does it make? Almost all these images of lazy Blacks, shuck n jive, watermelon cooning sambo whatever was proliferated not only in slavery but through Jim Crow Era and beyond.

The difference is you were suggesting they were "given" to Thailand by white people.

They're both meant to humiliate and demean. One's a bigger deal.

I don't know. While Jim Crow is bad stuff, it seems the unabashed reference to slavery is worse, and more obviously disgusting, as well.

I suppose this arrangement did live on past the war, though.

I just feel like remembering these things helps prevent their return.

After reading that response, the obvious answer to the questions is: Yes, always this uptight.

I would bet that they were. Look at how racist Japanese culture has been towards people of African descent. My uncle who served in WW2 told me that the White GIs used to tell the locals that the Black soldiers had tails like monkeys. It's not like you have ever historically had African people living in SE Asian countries and I know specifically that the name of the dessert in the Philippines had to come about during US occupation. But these specific images in the OP are distinctly American in nature. When were Blacks ever serving or cleaning houses in Thailand? Ummm never. Where did they get that? I guess if you really want to get down to it, find out who started the company that makes the product.
