Yes, I do understand the derivation of the word.

Like many other labels, however, this one has gained a sense of derogation and is offensive to many Chinese, who do not appreciate finding themselves painted with the same wide brush as those who undertake actions and make decisions with which they may disagree. It creates and encourages a negative and damaging stereotype.

If the use of the 'label' was restricted only to talking about the Chinese Communists or Chinese Government, that would be one thing, but it is not. It is now applied with one fell swoop to every Chinese individual, whether they belong to the Communist party or not, whether they support the actions of their government or not.

Anytime a culture and a people are reduced to one 'label', it demeans both the one being labeled and the one using the label. So, please take the time to spell out the phrase Chinese Communist or Chinese Government, remembering that 'Chinese' does not equal 'Chinese Communist' nor 'Chinese Government', and do not resort to epithets that try to ignore that fact.
