We are still waiting for the outcome of the interview we had last tuesday. Does anyone know what the waiting time is for those who do not get approved on the spot? The lady said we would get some feedback by Friday but we didn't. Meanwhile I attended a job interview and was hired on the spot and I started working on Tuesday. This has helped a lot with getting my mind off the GC worries. I understand why some people would rather have a job on EAD than nothing with a GC. Sitting at home is such a BORE!!!

Anyways, I'm grateful for how far I have come and I'm much happier that I have a job right now. I'll hear from USCIS when I hear from them.

Congrats to everyone with positive feedback. We're keeping fingers crossed for the rest of the folks out there.

Thanks and God bless!

Well, today I went to get my SSN card updated with my married name. It was a simple and fast appointment. Finally I will be able to have all documents in my married name. Next week I will get my drivers license updated.

I also called USCIS (tier 2) about my I-485 and renewing my passport. Had I known I'd be sitting in "testing and interview" for two months I would have mailed my passport application in as soon as I had my testing notice. It seems many people here use expired passports, but I wanted to know what an IO had to say. He told me I shouldn't have an expired passport, and that I should just bring copies of my passport and BC with me - that if the IO asks for originals I will be given time to submit them.

Seems like bad info, which surprised me, given it was a tier 2 person.

He did say if I have no interview by 80 days after being put to "testing and interview" to make an info pass appointment.

I think I will have to figure out a week day to travel home to get a new passport (challenging to do now that it is almost fall). Thankfully I have AP, but was hoping not to need it, I didn't want to travel until I had my GC...

The IO who interviewed us did not have an issue about my expired passport 4 years ago. She just asked if that is all I had and she was fine with that. I had asked before in the main forum about presenting an expired passport all the responses I got was that it is not a problem as long as you present a valid ID for identification purposes. The only downside of presenting an expired passport is that you can't have it stamped if you get approved on the spot which equals to have your green card as far as proof of your legal status and leaving the country, that is while the GC arrives in the mail.

What country are you from? the Mexican Consulate won't renew mine because in my marriage certificate from USA does not show my second last name ( mother's last name) as it is customary in Mexico and I can't " prove" my identity and marital status with them so they can't give me one. Yeah, I at least have my EAD/AP and drivers license, so I assume that would be valid.

My husband and I have a plan to get my passport renewed, but I feel uncomfortable crossing without a GC. Maybe I'm silly, I didn't have any issues with just my TN Status but always felt nervous since they can deny entry at any time. At least with a GC I belong more. Oh well, if I don't have an interview date I will plan to go to Vancouver and get the expedited passport.

I'm glad to know others have use an expired passport, that is a relief.

I'd send it all by mail, that way it is all together. Once it has been sent you can apply for a job and request it be expedited. But as you say, you may have your interview first. It sounds like others have been okay, it's why I have trouble believing what the IO said.

But you could apply for the EAD, and if you get an RFE at the interview, at least you will know you have an EAD coming to help you get state ID.
