Liberty is precisely why the Second Amendment exists. You should read it sometime.

Or maybe you should. Private gun ownership in the home is NOT what the Second Amendment is about.

The Gun Lobby's interpretation of the Second Amendment is one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American People by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime. The real purpose of the Second Amendment was to ensure that state armies - the militia - would be maintained for the defense of the state. The very language of the Second Amendment refutes any argument that it was intended to guarantee every citizen an unfettered right to any kind of weapon he or she desires.

Retired Chief Justice Warren Burger, "The Right to Bear Arms," Parade Magazine, January 14, 1990.

I must have missed that part in the constitution

.

If you don't want guns in YOUR home....don't bring any in. It is pretty simple.

Next you will want to ban cars....cause they kill.

Where did this silly analogy come from? Cars do not 'kill' people. People are killed in automotive accidents, that's not a product of the car as a deadly weapon, that's a product of the car being heavy and fast moving. Guns do not kill people either, if we want to be pedantic (which obviously I do) but guns are weapons that are designed specifically to kill and maim. If you want to have a gun then you should be obligated to take the ownership extremely seriously and to understand all the implications of having a firearm, not just the fantasy one where you get to kill a bad guy who is the epitomy of evil so you don't ever have to examine your conscience and justify your decision.

I thought all you anti-gun nuts were about saving lives?

Or only lives ended by guns?

Perhaps that makes sense to you, but really, that's not a very rational argument.

Accidents happen. I am not talking about accidents, I am addressing actions by people that intentionally do what they want to do, kill.

Really, you want to carry on this irrational and pointless analogy?

You do know that you need to obtain a license to drive a car? That part of the test is designed to make you aware of the dangers of operating a car recklessly and to highlight steps that you are obligated to take to minimize the chances of accidents? Taking a driving test is a serious business, at least where I come from it is and you have to demonstrate competence in order to obtain a license, both in the ability to control the vehicle in various conditions and to understand the inherent dangers of operating the vehicle. There are lists of things you aren't allowed to do while driving a car because doing so renders you less capable of operating the vehicle safely. It's not the same as the car is not a weapon, it's a vehicle for transportation and yet, it's taken seriously and the dangers are widely recognised.

What steps are taken to ensure that a gun owner is competent to handle and store a weapon?

None. The only steps they take is to insure you have the money for the purchase.

Not true.

You just need a license to drive on public roads. Even then you could drive on public roads without a license. Not to hard to do.....it would just be illegal....ie..crime

Well then...we should make killing people a crime.

What were knives made for?

This 'the gun is a tool' argument is only proof that you refuse to acknowledge that the gun is designed to kill and maim. I know it is, you know it is, and you know as well as anyone that a gun is the weapon of choice in most situations, not a knife, a car or a plastic bag, not a swimming pool, a hammer or a brick but a gun and being able to operate and store a gun safely is and should be a priority to anyone who chooses to have a gun in the home and most people choose not to have a gun in the home because accidents with guns are for the most part tragedies. Accidents with knives normally lead to cut fingers and the application of a sticking plaster.
