My wife's interview for her K3 (and K4 for her son) is scheduled in Rio on February 27th. I've just started a new job, and don't know if I can get time approved to be there (it is a highly stressful type of workplace). Has anyone been in a similar situation? Do you know if my not being there will negatively affect her chances?

You're not expected to be there. The consulate in Rio is actually more receptive to having the USC there than others, and it is supposedly beneficial for the USC to be there as they invite him or her into the actual interview. BUT it is not required.

By the time of my interview we were having this same thoughts about having more changes to get the visa if we went together for the interview. So, he decided to send this email to the Consulate:

"My fiancé is scheduled for her interview on December 19th. I am wondering if it will make a difference in the decision that the visa is granted or not if I am present at the interview." and got this answer

"Dear Sir or Madam:

Your presence is not requested to this interview, but you can feel free to come in case you want it.

Regards, IV Unit"

I went to the interview by myself and got my visa.
