Thanks for the link... Here is their list of 15 core beliefs:

1. Illegal aliens are here illegally.

2. Pro-domestic employment is indispensable.

3. A strong military is essential.

4. Special interests must be eliminated.

5. Gun ownership is sacred.

6. Government must be downsized.

7. The national budget must be balanced.

8. Deficit spending must end.

9. Bailout and stimulus plans are illegal.

10. Reducing personal income taxes is a must.

11. Reducing business income taxes is mandatory.

12. Political offices must be available to average citizens.

13. Intrusive government must be stopped.

14. English as our core language is required.

15. Traditional family values are encouraged.

7 and 8 are basically redundant but I agree with these and it should be what a "true" tea party stands for with the rest of the garbage removed.. Anything beyond these two and they are just killing the message.

13 and 15 seem to be at odds..

So you don't agree that 1. Illegal aliens are here illegally.?/ I can't wait to hear this one

How anyone could disagree with these points, or refer to them as crazy as so many of you do, is absurd.

Because making political office available to non-wealthy or corporate sponsored candidates is an atrocious idea.

I don't believe many disagree so much as most of us operate in the real world, protected by Constitutional rights, where some of items in the list would not get traction. These points could very well be the memorized answers from a Ms Universe candidate as she emerges from the isolation booth. Talking points to the unaware and gullible.

To be sure, these points don't come in a vacuum - you must drink the entire jug of Kool Aid or be banned from the island. They are just euphemisms for a more Stepfordian society.

Germany went through a similar process of 'solving the immigrant problem' and reinforcing its traditional values in the 1930's. It did not end up all too well for millions.

I would believe if the TBs had attempted to do anything to help the American people and so far they have not offered anything but empty rhetoric. I will believe when they roll up their sleeves and get to deliver on the promises they made to their constituents... So far, that crowd has pretty much been jipped.

I agree with that statement.. But as you intimated stating the obvious is hardly a position. "Balance the budget as a priority over social programs" is a position, "Legalize pot" is a position. Obama and Palin can agree that illegal aliens are illegal that tells me nothing of their position of what to do about it. Look at the list.. statements that give no position, redundancies, inconsistencies.. It looks like a first draft from a high school PS class.

I really liked the idea of the Tea party when it first started.. but then I like Ross Perot before I realized he was insane (still voted for him).. In my opinion the #1 threat to the country is our prolonged over-spending. The rest of the list is pointless if we destroy our ability to survive and prosper - it was the founding reason for the tea party and yet it is in the middle of the list.

They want to build military, cut business taxes, and cut personal taxes.. I believe in supply side economics and that at certain points cutting taxes can raise revenue.. But come on.. this plan requires steep steep cuts everywhere and I don't see that in the list...

You see what they are doing with that list right? They are making the same mistakes as the R and the D party.. Looking for groups to join at the expense of the original intent of the party.. #15 is for the religious right, #2 is for the lower middle class afraid of losing their jobs.. #13 is for libertarians and "true" conservatives.. what group do you think #14 is for?

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Politics is always about ideals to strive for, no matter what side you are on. That does not make them gullible positions.

It is not empty rhetoric. First of all adherents are generally NOT in power and are therefore powerless to effect significant change. It is a process.

Your comparison to the Nazis is terrible and totally off base. It is invalid liberal "commentary" like this that have helped stymie change that the Tea Party adherents wish for. They have been demonized by the media with flippant criticisms like that.

And, by the way, I should point out your use of "TBs" is offensive.

How did "English is our core language" make it into the ideology? Reducing taxes because you don't like paying taxes is a fallacy. I've mentioned this before. Your income is balanced around your taxes. If everyone stopped paying taxes at the same time or had a decrease in taxes at the same time, pay rates would go down. Your wage is calculated based on what you will take home.

Wacky Joe Biden opines though that illegal aliens are already Americans. So Joe sez you're full of it.

Mmm, your wage is calculated largely on your employer's need to keep you around.

Here. Let me tell you. Okay, sure. That's... obvious. That's not actually a position, though, it's a statement of fact.

1. Illegal aliens are here illegally.

Okay, sure. That's... obvious. That's not actually a position, though, it's a statement of fact. It belongs on a comedy segment somewhere called 'today on Stating the Obvious!'

2. Pro-domestic employment is indispensable.

As I understand it, this is also fact. Correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding of this statement, but this means that hiring domestic workers is the most important thing and that keeping manufacturing on-shore is equally as essential?

3. A strong military is essential.

What is it essential for? And how do you define 'strong'? Because a strong military specializing in defense of the terrain that the country exists on is very important. Same with having good short-range aerial forces. But are we talking about being world police and making it so no country is able to stop a US invasion? Because that's expensive and taking it too far. Military spending in the US is completely out of hand. So depending on what is meant by strong, by the time we get to number three, we're already contradicting several other points on the remainder of the list. This way layeth madness.

4. Special interests must be eliminated.

Define special interest? I'd define the American Family Association as a special interest group. Are you telling me that there are an absurdly low number of people who support the campaigns of the AFA and the Tea Party? Because this way layeth hypocrisy.

5. Gun ownership is sacred.

This one just is madness. The right for a person of sound mental health, appropriate training and a clean criminal background check to obtain a firearm for the purpose of sport is something I absolutely support. The idea that any human being should be able to walk into a gun store off the street and walk out with a gun? Freaking insanity. Gun rules such as storage rules and background checks are important to keeping children from shooting themselves in the face and keeping people with untreated (or in-treatment) mental issues from shooting up movie theatres.

6. Government must be downsized.

Why? What are you afraid of?

7. The national budget must be balanced.

I can agree with this one.

8. Deficit spending must end.

And this one.

9. Bailout and stimulus plans are illegal.

Bailouts, I 100% agree with. Stimulus plans? I see no issue with those, provided that the things being funded are for the general public's best interest. I would fully support a road-care initiative to create jobs, as that helps a lot of general citizens, for example.

10. Reducing personal income taxes is a must.

11. Reducing business income taxes is mandatory.

Okay. But how do you reconcile these? It's mandatory to reduce all income taxes. Great. Now where are you getting the money to balance the budget, pay for the military and end deficit spending? Like. Are you planning to put a toll booth on every road, increase sales taxes, increase immigration fees? How is this possible? These two positions contradict everything else. You can't have the world's strongest military without being able to pay for it!

12. Political offices must be available to average citizens.

Okay, definitely.

13. Intrusive government must be stopped.

What is meant by this? This is too general to actually evaluate. No government oversight of factories? No safety regulations? Let's get rid of rules for what constitutes a safe carseat for a baby? It doesn't make sense, because of how broad it is.

14. English as our core language is required.

Why?

15. Traditional family values are encouraged.

The biggest problem with this is that they have a very narrow range of values that are 'traditional' and they are the traditional values of a very specific class, race and religion. It borders dangerously close to establishing a state religion...

Great job breaking it down. The rules are too broad and vague at the same time. WIthout context, they could cause problems.
