i864 is mandatory for joint sponsor (JS).

If JS is married filing jointly with a spouse and the spouse's income will also be used for AOS, the spouse will fill out i864a.

Joint sponsor will also submit:

- 2013 Income Tax Return and W2 (must meet the income requirements http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864p.pdf )

- photocopy of US passport if US citizen or photocopy of GC (front and back) if LPR

Joint sponsor's spouse will also submit:

- 2013 W2

so the joint sponsor must fill out tax return for the last 3 years or only 2013 tax return ?

thnks

What matters is the most recent tax return and w2 (2013) so you can submit that alone.

You can also submit the 2011 and 2012 if you want but its only optional and they won't use those incomes anyway.

after i submit this documents how much that it usually takes to process the visa any idea ?

It really depends on the consular officer who will review your case. Give it a week or two after you have submitted it to the embassy.

Hi,

I had a question regarding the I-864. My wife is applying for her mother. My wife doesn't work, so when filling out the I-864, should she fill it out with me as a joint sponsor or do I have to fill out a separate form?

thanks. So a couple more questions, my wife will need to fill the I-864 and not list any joint sponsors, correct? Since she's a housewife, what should she indicate in the work history section?

Also on the I-864A, in section 13 it asks you to specify the # of the immigrant being sponsored. Here's part of the text "jointly and severally liable for any obligations I incur under the affidavit of support, promise to complete and file an affidavit of support on behalf of the following (Indicate Number)"

What is this #?
