This topic was so touching to me that I finally signed up as a member. We're planning to submit our petition soon, so I have been following VJ and getting informed! I know I am in for the toughest test of my strength, commitment, and faith. SAgirl and Belle&Iz, your posts hit my heart! This is my first long distance relationship. I truly believe our relationships are stronger than many normal relationships I see in person. We only have communication through words so in turn we know our fiance/finacee's on a much deeper level. Although I have only seen him in person for a mere few days, this man knows more about me, cares more about me, and makes me feel more loved than any non-distance relationship I have had! Saying how ungodly difficult it is to be apart from him would be preaching to the choir!

You all are such a wonderful support system! Being a part of VJ will make this process a bit easier. Good Luck to all of you! And as my fiance says...Just have faith, we will be together soon.....look time is flying! lol (endless positivity from my Rasta)

Welcome LionessDeon! I'm so glad that you signed on. We are all on this journey together! I don't think that anyone can understand what we are all going through accept for the people going through it. You have friends on here. Keep up that positive outlook and continue on growing and deepening your relationship. Best wishes!

I love this thread!! Encouraging words are so important during this time for all of us. I think it shows how true your love really is if you are willing to go through this whole process. Sometimes it's angering to have to go through this, but then I sit there and smile and feel grateful that I have found someone that makes it all worth it. It's a great feeling, isn't it?

I always tell myself that we are stronger being apart than we would be if we had been by each others side this whole time. We are tested in unimaginable and unfair ways with this process. But if you can make it out the other side (and you will!!), you guys will be so much stronger and appreciate your time together so much more. I know that any time I have ever had with my fiancé, it has been cherished so much.

It's also good to find distractions throughout the process. Looking into the next steps, looking for wedding inspiration (which can sometimes cause MORE stress since you can't really plan!), and talking to your fiancé and connecting through the distance as much as you can always helps. There have been days when it seemed like we would never make progress and we were doomed to an eternity apart, but there were other times when the hope and positivity was overwhelming. Enjoy the ups and downs, because I promise, one day you will look back at the downs and laugh. Good luck to you on your journey. :)

Agree with you! Distance is so hard to stand ( it just makes me cry!!) but it does give us an important lesson ( this is how i comfort myself:) - it teaches us to value time we get to spend with our loved ones. You know, they say - a one doesn't realize the value of a person in his\her life until he\she looses that person. VJ friends - we totally got this! All those "good bays" and thoughts like " if he\she was here we could do this and that" ... it is giving us a good lesson of how to value our loved ones when we are together. Sometimes I look at people around and see how get argue over something trivial. This journey and the whole waiting game it teaching us to see the difference between trivial and important ..hopefully :) But we are good now, the lesson is learned and I hope we all will get approved very soon :)

And guys, thank you for this thread and all the encouraging words! I needed it as well very very much!!

The way that I look at this waiting period is taking the time to see what our strengths and weakness are in our relationship, how to keep building it stronger. He is my forever and I want to make it the best "forever and happily after". Being apart is hard but it also bonds us stronger in more ways than the typical boy meets girl story. More than most people on here have a beautiful love story...I wished we could share some of those stories? I'd love to hear how couples met each other and fell in love!

Technology is overrated. We don't use skype or facetime or anything like that. I wrote a letter the other day, and we phone and text. But too much communication can actually make it harder! Makes time go by slower if you're always waiting for a text or call. I distract myself with work and play, otherwise I'm missing him too much.

I read somewhere about long-distance relationships that it's good to have one day a week (or so) of no communication. For us it happens naturally when one of us is travelling in a place with no cell-phone reception. Then we can just focus on our real lives. Helps me appreciate my friends and family here, instead of just pining over someone that's far away.

Oh, and it's also helpful to watch movies that are about long-distance relationships. That way you cry with the characters, or, laugh, because so much of what they say and do is exactly what we feel, except they make it so dramatic, so it's funny. Serious, just watch some of these trailers, laugh or cry, it'll help: http://www.long-distance-lover.com/long-distance-relationship-movies/

Much faster to get a letter to Canada then parts of Africa. Also calling Africa isn't cheap. So you really have to see what is best for you and your partner.

My credit card sees how expensive it is to call Africa! It will be nice though, the skype credit i keep buying and paying off can be more money for the two of us once he's here with me. Hopefully not too much longer now. I'm getting more and more frustrated, this month will make 3 months of processing and 8 months apart(on the same day actually). I'm trying to look on the positive side of things, we've come farther in waiting than we have left to go... as long as the TSC gets their act together. It looks like they've started to speed up a bit since the end of May.

It is so hard to be away from my fiance Jean, so trust me I know the feeling and she is also missing me a lot. It is the hardest part of the Fiance visa process by far. She is also living with her sister and her situation is not quite ideal, so she is not having an easy time.

But you love each other, you have a little time apart, and he is worth it to you, right? Jean is worth whatever it takes, I hate being away from her but I know this will make me appreciate being with her even more when we are done and she is here.

Hang in there, your time will come and you will be happy!

Here's my 2 cents on this . No offence but if you are someone who prays then maybe you can relate to this... Just pray .. because sometimes .. somethings are far from what we can have control over... it is frustrating I can only guess ... but then .. like its said .. there is a time for everything under the sun .. so all you can do is just eat.. pray .. and keep loving.. oh yea and waiting on the miracle to happen !!!!!!!!

Try to cheer up .. soon you will be with your loved on laughing about the whole visa journey !!! Think of all the seasons to come where you can spend time together.so try to smile because you would be posting soon the golden words'' my visa is approved''!!!!!!!!

You are not alone in this ........

Godspeed

Hugs to you :alien: !!!!!!

Hi there, welcome to the board! I also have not seen my fiance' since April, so I know how you (and most here) feel. You have to be strong, patient, and make the best out of the situation while you wait. I wish you and everyone here the best of luck, I hope soon instead of just wishing we are with our loved ones, we no longer have to just wish!

Unfortunately, waiting is a necessary evil of this, but it will also make us appreciate things more when they finally happen. Hang in there and keep your relationship strong, honest, and faithful!
