Beneficiary diagnosed with schizophrenia

Just as we near our interview date, my fiance has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. The doctor says that it is mild and if treated he can live a normal life (hold a job, et cetera)

My fiance has not had his medical examination or his interview yet. We are waiting for the interview date to be set by the consulate.

Does anyone know how this will be handled going forward? I still wish to pursue our petition and to marry him

He will need a letter from a mental health professional stating that in their medical opinion he is of no danger to himself or others. He may also be required to be examined by a mental health professional of the embassy's choosing.

Found this at the Dept. of State

(iii) who is determined (in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services in consultation with the Attorney General)-

(I) to have a physical or mental disorder and behavior associated with the disorder that may pose, or has posed, a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the alien or others, or

(II) to have had a physical or mental disorder and a history of behavior associated with the disorder, which behavior has posed a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the alien or others and which behavior is likely to recur or to lead to other harmful behavior, or

(iv) who is determined (in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services) to be a drug abuser or addict, is inadmissible.

Mental illness is not a visa deal killer- you will have to get a letter from his doctor that he is not a threat to himself or others and that he is being treated and is stable. You will have to take that to the medical exam appt.

Yes, and he desperately wants me to come down there again soon to meet more of his family. He claims that his recent episode as brought on because of how long the visa was taking and other things related to our relationship.

Funny you should comment as one of his main focuses lately has been Metal Gear Solid, which he is obsessed with.. He said he is Shalashaska, and that that is the name of Napoleon's horse.. Of course he's backtracking now..

Haha Metal Gear is awesome!!!! And yeah I'm seriously glad to hear that things are turning out better for you, because when you posted the other day it seemed like your journey was over. You're certainly in my prayers with this.

I am very stubborn and won't give up until all hope is gone.. Right now he is resisting treatment.. But I will talk to him soon and probably have to go visit again soon (I hate Brazil)

I am a little bit confused now. The psychiatrist told his father he thought he had a mild form of schizophrenia but didn't tell this to my fiance directly. Is this still considered a diagnosis?

He is back to his normal self. I told him he would need a letter from his doctor saying he was stable, et cetera, and the reply of the doctor was that he would need to be seen by the same one for at least 20 sessions and even then, the doctor would be taking a risk to provide such a letter, as it could jeopardize their job and reputation.

So as it stands, my fiance is acting normal, he is on medication but has not been told directly of a diagnosis besides stress.
