Because someone didn't lose a life or try to demonize an entire group of people. Please tell me NB hijacked your account.

I didn't realize that was the required criteria for a racial news story. I figured that fact the guy is a member of congress, and making overtly racial statements, it would be on the news 24/7, like say if it was a white congressman saying something similar. If a white congressman said something like that, they would be interrupting my baseball game right about now with the breaking news. Not that I'd care since the Rockies are killing the Rangers.

A black man of power making racist statements is not news for some reason. See blacks still cant get a break, no matter how hard they try to be treated equally. Even the black racists are victims of discrimination.

Head Black/Muslim here,

Uncle Tom shouldn't be used because of it's racial connotations. It doesn't matter who says it, it's wrong and the politician should have known better. It's in the same vein as saying the N word. You don't get a pass because of your skin color. He could have called him something else, a jerk, or douche bag.

Carry on.

Just because he called another black person an uncle Tom doesn't make him racist.

Sure, he could have surely chosen another word. This, I am in agreement with.

I like attention. What can I say. Take care.

You take care too neighbor.

Well, I disagree. Could you even use it on someone that wasn't black? Wouldn't make sense.

I know you do. You have made that clear. That's okay. This is our first spat. I still love you though. (L)

Derogatory, yes, racist, no.

So totally hypothetically speaking if I called you Aunt Jemima, it would not be racist ?

He shouldn't get a pass because he's black -- sure he's a racist for using such a derogatory term.

"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!" - Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945.

"Retreat hell! We just got here!"

Black people can't be racists. Jesse Jackson himself said it, so it must be true.

'Course he also said "That's all Hymie wants to talk about is Israel. Every time you go to Hymietown that's all they want to talk about." But that's about religion and not race per se, so that's cool. Right? He's soooo spiritual.

Uncle Tom is a derogatory term, and should be added to the VJ net nanny content filtering list along with "Chicom" and many others. Unless a VJ member has an uncle named Tom, the term should not be used. There's quite a list of derogatory terms in the public domain that are used to openly offend a person who doesn't behave properly according to their skin color. If I write those terms here, I would get banned. Go figure.

http://www.ijreview.com/2014/05/134719-video-cnn-reporter-believe-congressman-says-clarence-thomas/

Representative Bennie Thompson (D-Miss) defended his statements from earlier this week that Republicans are racist and that Justice Clarence Thomas is an Uncle Tom.

Stunned CNN reporter Dana Bash barely recovers enough to ask the eleven-term Congressman a follow up question:

Bash: Calling him an Uncle Tom, though, isn’t that a racially charged term?

Thompson: Uh, for some it is, but to others it’s the truth.

Bash: Because, you know, looking at that and hearing that kind of language, that certainly wouldn’t be , you know, appropriate, if it was coming from somebody who was white.

Thompson: But I’m black.

Bash: So that makes it OK?

Getting back to topic is that it's just NOT okay. Bennie Thompson's intention was to demean a sitting member of the United States Supreme Court because in Bennie Thompson's view, Clarence Thomas does not behave as he thinks a black man should behave.

You're racist for even thinking of that.

Of course, but I am just trying to understand the rules

If black people use the N word, call folks Uncle Toms, the world stops

Blacks it's ok..and you don't understand

That's why he got a free pass for calling Obama the N word

Clarence T will be deblacked, because he does not think acceptable black thoughts and according to the accepted norm. He is a person first and foremost with independent thoughts. Something we keep getting told all Black people want to be seen as...
