Representative Bennie Thompson (D-Miss) defended his statements from earlier this week that Republicans are racist and that Justice Clarence Thomas is an Uncle Tom.
Stunned CNN reporter Dana Bash barely recovers enough to ask the eleven-term Congressman a follow up question:
Bash: Calling him an Uncle Tom, though, isn’t that a racially charged term?

Thompson: Uh, for some it is, but to others it’s the truth.

Bash: Because, you know, looking at that and hearing that kind of language, that certainly wouldn’t be , you know, appropriate, if it was coming from somebody who was white.

Thompson: But I’m black.

Bash: So that makes it OK?

Thompson: Well, I mean, you asked me the question and I’m giving you the response.
In other words, yes, being black makes it OK for him to say it.
He then explained why not being “sensitive” to issues important to minorities, all of which are his progressive left-wing positions, justifies this kind of statement.
In case you’re waking up from a slumber that’s been ongoing since Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech and wonder how far we’ve come in achieving a color-blind society, here’s how things are…
If you’re black and you disagree with Democrats you’re an Uncle Tom; if you’re white and you disagree with Democrats you’re a racist.

Huh?

1. I don't understand your points.

2. Yes, there are blacks that call other blacks Uncle Toms. These are the people that they feel have lost any sense of roots to their culture or blood. They are corruptible, will do any thing for a buck just because some white person has told them to do it.

3. There are white people with their version of this as well. What do they call white people who like black people? N##### lovers.

Forgive NB, he tries to grasp something that is beyond his comprehension sometimes. :)

There is nothing to follow other than the melody that accompanies the tap dancing act... LOL

Haha if you figure out the melody, let me know. I want to tap dance with you too!

It is not OK for him to say this. It is also ridiculous to try and make an issue about it. There are double standards and if his constituents like and agree with him then let them be. I just smh and move on.

I never said it was.

However, life is full of double standards. You can find them all over the frozen food section of the Current Events and Hot Social Topics right here in very own VJ.

The comment wasn't racist.

I agree that double standards exist everywhere. It was a racist statement. If it is not OK for one race to say it is not OK for any race to say it. The Congressman was going for shock value. He was called on it as he should have been. We just have to agree to disagree.

He called him an uncle Tom. Derogatory word, yes. Racist word, no.
