We sent in our I-130 back in January and understand from this site that once USCIS receives our file and sends us our NOA1 it then gets put in box in a vault and we wait....and wait....and wait until someone takes our file and performs magic!!!!

When we filed we did not put my SSN on the I-130 as we were not aware a SSN given back in the early 1980's on a J-I visa would still be valid. So we left it blank. But, when doing taxes we discovered I needed a US tax number or a SSN so my husband could file....just as he needed a CDN tax number or a SIN so I could file. I notified a local SSN office and they said my SSN was still valid and that I wouldn't need a US tax number.

So here my question. Do we contact USCIS and let them know I have a SSN and provide them with reason why we left it blank? Or, do we just leave it alone? If we do, is there anything in particular that I should indicate so they match this new info to our case file?

I want to get on this asap as I don't want an RFE to delay our case. This wait is long enough.

Thanks.

There's nothing to be done about it now. Very unlkely that anything you send after the fact will make its way to your file. I doubt you'll get an RFE for this since they won't expect you to have a US SSN anyway.

hi

ditto, I don't think that you'll get an rfe but on the rest of the forms, put it on. your ssN is for life. you won't get another number

if you got a valid number, that's yours forever
