Monica Lewinsky breaks silence on Clinton affair

This thread is gross. I was going to say good for her for trying to stop bullying and harassment. Her life is pretty much ruined as far as I can see, she is unemployable, probably unmarryable, and for what? For a mistake made in her early 20s? I bet a lot of people made mistakes then, even sexually inappropriate ones.

But here, we just get more of the bullying she is trying to stop. Let her live in peace.

It's easy to judge when you're not in the hot seat. And with social media, every move you made/make is immortalized. Then they sit there and wonder why teen suicide is up in recent years.

Calling Clinton her boss is a bit misleading because technically, you could call anyone working inside the White House, a subordinate to the President, even a prep cook who probably has no interaction with the president, but instead has a supervisor that they answer to. The implication is that Clinton used his position of power to take advantage of Lewinksy, either by offering her gifts/hush money/promotion in exchange for sexual favors. He did not, according to Lewinsky. What Clinton was guilty of was being a sleazeball and thinking that he's above reproach because probably he thought that one, it was none anyone else's goddam business (which he was right), and two, he didn't believe he broke any law having sexual relations with an intern (he didn't). Clinton lied about it not to protect himself from potential legal consequences (he broke no laws from his affair), but to save himself and his presidency from the embarassment. It was a little white lie. Yes, it was sh!tty of him and sleazy, and stupid to think that Kenneth Starr wouldn't nail him for lying about it, but nonetheless, it was an insignificant lie that had no consequences. That's why the impeachment vote had no real consequence and didn't remove him from office. Has he been the first sitting president to lie? Hardly. Was it anywhere near as big a lie as Reagan's during the Iran-Contra scandal? Hardly. Will Republicans ever forgive Clinton's little white lie like they've forgiven Reagan's? Ha, never. How Starr's witchhunt of the Clintons went was far more deplorable than what Clinton did, IMO. The selective morality by the Republican Party was and continues to be a thing of nonsensical wonder.

Intern in the Oval office.. The president of the united states.. Its not "Boss" its orders of magnitude beyond Boss.

As for the rest of it: I Never claimed she was bought off or that the world did not make too big of deal of the whole thing or that the Republicans did not abuse the situation for political gain.. I said two things: First there is nothing new here in her "breaking the silence" and second vilifying *her* and acting as if Clinton was in any way a victim in the act is wrong

That's it.. I'm not going off into spin-land with you because left/right extremists need to turn this into a political game.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Steven, you're usually on point. But this isn't political. It's about right and wrong. Clinton was THE boss. And if you think his position as president didn't affect the situation, I got some ice cubes to sell you.

Agree.

I totally agree. He abused his power. Of course she did it of her own free will

I have been in the exact same situation before, and I freely admit I failed

The human condition is fragile, especially when it comes to sex and young gals

I forgive Clinton. I ain't saying it's right, but I understand

When you got a mean old wicked witch at home who does nothing but give you hell and destroy you, and some young girl starts treating you like you are all that..

Well it's hard

I would be willing to bet money there are many here who would not pass the scrutiny of their own sanctimonious attitude towards Monica and Clinton.

I hope she was paid off handsomely. This kerfuffle all but ruined her life...

First, both buts should be whipped. I am sure Bill got his but tore off.

Second, we fight hard for what we have in this country. There are plenty of men who do not see us as equals. The last thing we need is some girl banging the married boss. This defeats the purpose and hard work many women activist put in for us when it comes to equality and equal pay. Many men see us as uncontrollable little puppies. And trust me, I don't think highly of Bill either. But as a woman, I am disappointed in Monica's behavior. She was in a powerful position and fumbled the ball.

Please show me proof that the Democrats are my favorite party. Please show me my voting patter or something for your baseless claim.

She was NOT in a powerful position at all. She was an intern, a perfect position to be manipulated and abused by the people that hold the real power. IMO you're being a little tough on a very young woman who was manipulated by the most powerful man on the planet.

Reagan and Bush did it , it's ok...

It's inbreed into you Liberals it's all you know

It might a result of evolution. Perhaps the motley crew carries gene that causes unmitigated hypocrisy, which is balanced by the libs' gene to point it out. Mother nature has its ways of balancing things...

She was in a powerful position if she had just recorded him WITHOUT giving him the booty my friend.

So you suggest that a White House intern attempt to blackmail the President?

I'd say it doesn't matter. She admitted it was consensual... They were both adults. End of story. Em tasol!
