Hey you guys,

Just a quick question: From reading about the rules on the K-1 Visa to Greencard part of the process a few years back, I remember that after obtaining the K-1 visa and getting married, one is supposed to provide certain items besides the marriage certificate to back it up, such as photos and bills for wedding photographer, organization, catering, etc.

With our K-1 application mailed out and received, my fiance and I are already starting to plan the wedding but would like to do most things ourselves for budget reasons. We have several talented cooks and photographers among our friends and we really want to keep the wedding on as much of a small scale as possible.

Can anyone tell me how much proof in the direction of wedding organization the USCIS currently needs?

What can you guys recommend? What kind of proof did you supply?

Thank you very much in advance!

Best,

I'm not really supplying anything in terms of wedding organisation. I have our wedding cert, hotel booking (we married in Vegas), chapel booking and that's about it! They are mainly looking for things like joint bank accounts, insurance policies with both your names.. Things like that.

We included a four photos from the wedding and our marriage certificate. Nothing else about the wedding was included. My wife wanted to include more photos and wedding information in her removal of conditions than her did in our adjustment status. Which looking back at it, was remarkably skimpy on any evidence beyond the bare minimum. She got her green card with no interview. Other than that birth certificates, NOA2, divorce decree of mine, bio page from both our passports, I-94, copy of the K-1 visa, besides the proof of income and taxes to go with the I-864.

Uscis is not really looking for proofs of booking the wedding and reception. If you have these, they will only serve as secondary evidences. What they need more importantly is proof/s that you have indeed married. This includes primarily: the marriage certificate and pictures with family / witness. In my case, we submitted 5 wedding pictures and 3 honeymoon pictures in Hawaii. We also added a bank statement of our joint checking account, and a certificate of me being included as a dependent on his medical insurance.

This is aside, of course, from the AOS requirements. http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

None, they only need two rounds of signed Letters of Intent to Marry. They could care less about wedding plans expect you marry within 90 days of POE>

What can you guys recommend? What kind of proof did you supply?

Nothing.

Thank you very much in advance!

She's referring to after visa issuance and getting the green card. A rare case of planning ahead of time instead of reacting after the fact is refreshing to see.

Yep, read the OP again. Marriage Certificate (stamped version) is all that is required. Photos of the event can be added to show ongoing real relationship (evidences for that should be included).

The only proof of marriage that needs to be sent with your AOS paperwork is a copy of your marriage certificate that you receive from the court, No other evidence is needed when filing.

If you should happen to have an interview, which is about 50% of those adjusting from a K-1, then you take evidence to the interview. Some photos of your wedding could help, but mainly they will want to see co-mingling of finances and co-habitation documentation.
