Cheating on you is not abuse.

Straight people who cheat can give their partners HIV too.

Divorce and file to ROC on your own.

Don't perpetuate the myth that when gay men have sex, they are exposing themselves to HIV.

A "myth" that unprotected homosexual "gay" sex exposes oneself and others to HIV? Are you serious? Am I missing something here?

Step1, no one can really tell you what your odds of denial are. Getting a divorce so soon after getting a green card doesn't put you in the best of positions, but it is not the end of the world. You have strong grounds for divorce.

Lots of straight couples don't even last the two years.

Get out. Get your head and your heart healthy. And go forward knowing that you had the right intentions, and it just didn't work out. I hope your spouse makes it easy for you to leave.

Sukie

And while you are at it get tested for HIV, aids, herpes II and all other stds and obtain treatment if necessary.

Any unprotected sex opens the parties involved to many sexually transmitted diseases regardless of sexual orientation. The viruses don't discriminate.

If the OP were a friend of mine, I'd advise them to leave the relationship immediately.

BUT would I be okay if I left this early? please keep in mind that I just received my 2 year Green card.

I have already been seeing a therapist. We even went to couples counseling twice.

thank you!

You can leave at any time you want. You can get a divorce any time you want. It seems to me you are more worried about your GC than the consequences of your marriage. Good luck to you.

The poster is probably alluding to the myth than *only* gay men having unprotected sex are exposing themselves to HIV, whereas it is a widely known fact that any type of unprotected sex, carries the same risk. That was a common myth in the 80's when little was known about the HIV virus.

Then that is what they should have said. This is what was said:

Don't perpetuate the myth that when gay men have sex, they are exposing themselves to HIV.

And the 80's...well they are 30 years ago. I would like to hope people today are a tad more up with the play. If they aren't, they need to be. Anyone, whatever their orientation, who has a partner running amok sleeping with anyone, and refuses to practise safe sex, is at risk.

And I don't think his GC his as high onhis list as some think. But it would have to be a consideration weighing heavily on his mind.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

You're right but many still believe you can't get infected with HIV from heterosexual intercourse. One of my business associates - a person who should know better - contracted the virus from his first mail-order bride...

Of course I am worried about my GC

Why do you think I came looking for help in this immigration forum?

I gave up my life for this man.

and have been living in this country for 10+ years, I cant go back to a country that has never accepted me.

straight or gay, you can do whatever you want, but when you are married, break promises, etc, you shouldn't bring anything negative into your family. most STDS are easy to cure but HIV. HIV is kept under control when you have the means. do I have $1800 a month to pay for HIV treatment? the answer is no. I could barely afford lawyer to help us through this process.

The reason I brought up STDS, HIV was because I thought it would make a better case for me. The law is strict when it comes to it. Some people would even sue you if you disclose someones HIV status.

Lastly. NO ONE can tell me Im more worried about my GC than my marriage. I've been trying hard to make it work but seem to be failing even with the help from professional psychological help. My husband will not change and possibly is even putting my health at risk.

I am trying to be safe, health wise and immigration wise. there is nothing wrong with that.

You are correct. I deviated from your original question.

All you need do to keep your residence is prove that you entered your marriage in good faith. Infidelity alone is not grounds for VAWA and you are not a victim of domestic abuse, under the scenario you describe.

That's very unfortunate.

For the OP, I hope he's gotten enough good advice here to make the best decision for him.

I would think infidelity and emotional abuse would be grounds for divorce. If you could get him to file for the divorce even better. You did say he would divorce you if you didn't be his doormat ..... I'd become complacent and get him to file it will look better. That's cutting to the chase for me anyways.

HI guys

Thank you all for the advice.

Well....as far as sleeping with him. He doesn't want to sleep with me any more. He only wants to sleep with other people.

I think he now wants to divorce me so he can keep doing whatever he wants.

Nodoby wants to be married to someone who sleeps around and neglects their husband/wife in all ways possible.

but now I wonder about my immigration status. would it look bad once I apply to remove conditions? I literally received my 2 year green card a month ago.

I know I have to have divorce papers by then

And I for 1 would stop sleeping with him immediately to protect yourself physically and emotionally.

That's very unfortunate.

For the OP, I hope he's gotten enough good advice here to make the best decision for him.
