Hi I am canadian and got married in Canada. my husband is from the U.S. He went home to Washington state. My question is I want to visit him. Do I tell the border guard right away he is my husband? We are going to Hawaii for a week as well. I have letter from my employer, pay subs, mortgage papers for my house etc. we plan on filing a CR1 but have to wait for the marriage certificate. I think they will ask "who am I going with". Any advice?

Whatever he asks you, tell the whole truth. The last three trips I made I said I was 'visiting my fiancee' and they never made an issue of it. If you don't have a return flight, or are taking too much stuff, they might question you more. But the last thing you want is to be barred from entering because of a pointless untruth.

30 Jan 2014 - NOA2 sent to NVC (64 agonizing days) P.S. Apparently VJ doesn't care about accurate timelines.

11 Feb - Got Case number

25 Feb - Packet 4 Received and Submitted

29 Apr - Medical (Dr Cheema)

01 May - Vancouver Consulate Interview - Approved!

06 May - Visa in hand!

06 June - Entered the USA!

14 June - Married!

Just tell them the truth. I live in Winnipeg and visit my husband in Fargo, ND nearly every weekend, and I answer only what they ask and bring all kinds of documentation to prove strong ties to Canada. It sounds like you have enough to prove this, and once you have filed and received your NOA1,carry all your relevant paperwork with you. You shouldn't have a problem, although remember that your admittance to the US is always at the discretion of the border guard you are speaking with.

Never lie, always tell the the truth! My 2 cents i sin my signature

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
