I didn't interpret OMWID's post as discounting the reality ...I took it = views it is a diversionary tactic = avoid the main topic of discussion by employing ad hominem.

(But...I have moments of mental lapse = I'm reading one sentence and something pulls my eyes away and I reconnect a sentence or two down....is that ADD..? (Yes - I have opened myself up to various insults but.. I am not afraid to just be me!..& for the most part - I like me!)

The proper way to address a subject would be to post something in a neutral tone, then talk about it. The members that ID are defending to a point, aren't interested in a debate. Nothing can change their minds. No one can sway them.

I think Spooks started an Islam thread last year, funny enough none of the usual suspects were in the thread. It was peaceful and had very little issues. Questions were asked and answered and it was very insightful. I believe more Muslims would come here if they weren't called acid throwers and wife beaters.

And that's your privilege. How many times do stories about black people and Muslims get posted and I'm asked what's wrong with my people? I've been asked do I feel shame because of the radicals within my religion. How many times do we hear this sort of thing and all Muslims get lumped into the same group? How many times do we have to acknowledge the black crime rate and why we have to be profiled and treated differently? Because when the perp is white, there's no correlation.

Your answer should be for all of us, but it's not. I've been told because I'm black and Muslim, it's my responsibility to denounce AND fix it within the same sentence. Even you tend to throw us under the bus if it's a white person. If it's the KKK, let's look at the black panthers. If it's a hate group, let's look at Islam.

I have seen marriages between American men and Filipinas that were near perfect marriages - I met one of them here on VJ. But I have also seen marriages where the American man treated his wife like property; but, of course, only when she arrived in the US. Obviously, not every man wants to control his wife, but it isn't honest to pretend that there are men like that out there.

I, for 1, like that VJ has a diverse member / poster base. Furthermore - I am happy there is a clear contrast in some members opinions.

Why? =

Coz otherwise, VJ would be full of moderates posting - "I agree with that! How do you think about this?" "Oh thank you for agreeing with me and I suppose I could alter my stance just enough to agree with you" = A Perpetual Compromise Hug = Gag Factor Vomit inducing stickiness.

(for the record - I view myself to be a Moderate / Libertarian hybrid which affords me the right to say - after I have considered your POV and I still don't agree = Go urself!)
