My wife and I are going to the SS office tomorrow to ask why her new SS card with her married name hasn't come in almost 2 months after it was supposedly sent for DHS verification.

Hopefully, we can fix the problem with the application without issue and I don't have to waste energy fighting their "dismissive" ways.

Hello Doc K,

Im curious about how did it go with going to the SS office. My situation is similar to your. Got that stupid response that my documents had to be verified by the DHS and it could take up to 4 weeks. Supervisor said the same thing to me, so kind of desperate now since I haven't been able to start to work cuz that company needs my SSN to process a background check for me :/

Hi,

We were told my wife's case required tier 3 clearance. Apparently this means that there are additional background checks that need to be made. My wife was born in a region of her country that had previously been designated an area with high terrorist activity. It makes everything a pain. We were stuck in administrative processing for 6 months because of stuff like this. So I'm not shocked this is taking so long.

K-1 visa holders? need additional DHS verification so says SSA? That's usually a result of the clerk not finding you in the SAVE database. Could be no record YET after POE - but with the instant I-94s online now - that waiting time has been reduced.

However - if you go back to SSA office - and ask for SAVE database lookup with a SSA supervisor - either by visa name or A# - and find a problem [mis-spelling or transposed digits] then withdraw the application - get into CBP office face to face and correct the I-94 record - then return to SSA office a week later and apply again, as it takes time for SAVE to be updated after a CBP change.

Sorry you're having troubles. I wrote about this a bit - over at

Hello,

My husband entered the US on 5/24/16 after an approved waiver (DS-260). After 3 weeks no social, we went to the SS Agency and was told to wait until 1 month after POE. Went back on 6/27/16 and was told to apply for a new SSC. We were then told that it needed verification and should wait 4 weeks. It's going to be 3 weeks and nothing yet. We checked on the SAVE database and yesterday it said "case under review - 1 day left". Today it just says "under review". Now I'm afraid the agency is going to give us another excuse and we'll have to wait more weeks.

Any suggestions?

We call the SS # and they say they can't tell us anything with out a SSN. We call the local office and the agent gets mad and keeps telling us to just wait. If we go to the SS Agency, do we just ask for a supervisor when we get called up? These agents get mad easily. My husband just wants to be able to work and get a DL. Please help!
