Hello new member Angie.

Just wondering if anyone out there is dealing with a age difference? I am older than my Fiance by 16yrs. Im 42 and he is 26. I find it funny in our society this is ok if the other way around but not female to male. So Im asking if we will have difficults in are approval and many delays. I have hired an attorney to help with our application so no mistakes to be made. Look forward to any advice or reply of the same situation.

Thank you,

Angela & John

Age difference only matters if you let it! I am 47 and my fiancee is 27. She and I have had very deep discussions about our age difference and she is completely ok with it. Her family is as well :) My children from my previous marriage are fine with it too...

Don't worry too much about this age gap. I can't relate too much about it, as me and husband only has a 6 years-age difference. But tell you what, I have read of age gaps here spanning up to more than 30 years, so you are, let's say, way below that average. As long as you guys have enough proof of an on-going loving and genuine relationship, this should not be a critical roadblock. :)

For some countries, a large age difference when the female USC is older than the beneficiary male is a red flag.

Read up on the appropriate regional forum.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

For many consulates (Africa, Middle East etc...) it can be considered a red flag. You will have to address any red flags. Evidence of a bonified relationship, time spent together, genuine communication are what you need to focus on to overcome any issues...

Have to agree with Christeen here. Dear OP, Jeanette72, maybe you will get more insights if you post on the Middleeast and North Africa regional forum: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/97-middle-east-and-north-africa/

Good luck to your journey!

Candy is 41 and I am 57. Do the math.

Oh yeah, BTW, my sister and brother in law are 16 years apart (both American) and are approaching their 30th wedding anniversary.

This has nothing to do with judging IF age factors into a marriage, but rather it is a matter that formSOME consulates it is an issue... (Phillipines is a totally different issue, where 20,30, 40 year age gaps are acceptable) but other MENA and Africa consulates... Marrying someone (especially where female is older than male and either already has children or is outside of childbearing age) with a big age gap is a RED FLAG as far as immigration is concerned. It is out of the cultural norms for that part of the world therefore scrutinized more. Not to say it can't be overcome, just that is is an issue that needs to be addressed... Age might be just a number, but for immigration from some places, it is an important number... Again, this has nothing to due with being compatible, true love, happiness, but has everything to do with immigration...
