CR1 confusion

If both the I129 and the I130 are approved at around the same time is there a reason one would not go through with the I130 (other than if it's been held due to the new way of doing things)? I'm hearing that the CR-1, even though it's already been approved, would take longer at the embassy stage than the K-3. Why? What additional steps does the embassy have to take?

If they're approved at the same time, then the I-130 will take longer. After approval the I-129F goes to the NVC, then on to the consulate. The I-130 it looks like needs to be requested to be forwarded (for a $200 fee) for NVC processing and there's a whole flowchart of things at that level before an interview.

The CR is the better visa though since it is an immigrant visa. The K3 is non-immigrant and you have to adjust status upon arrival, however, it reunites you with your spouse much faster. If time is not of the essence, then go for the CR/IR over the K3.

First of all....I love your picture....PATRIOTS RULE!!!!!!!!!!! Once the I-130 is approved you have seval steps at the NVC until it is "documentarily approved" and put in the queue for an interview. With the k-3...once that is approved it goes to the embassy. The cr-1 steps can take a few months to accomplish.....it doesnt take longer at the embassy stage as much as at the NVC.

Ok now I think I get it. I just looked at the NVC flowchart for the CR-1. So basically the K-3 doesn't have to go through all that...it just kind of gets looked at real quick and sent off to the embassy. I think I'd definitely go for the K-3 then since time is essential to me.
