My Fiance didn't wait for his US passport, he is still have his Canadian passport when we started the K1 process, we just include his naturalization certificate and we didn't encounter any problem at all, now we are waiting for my MNL# @ NVC .

Certificate of Naturalization is adequate proof of citizenship.

But out of curiosity: How did you meet your alien fiance if you don't have a passport?

@VFittipaldi, he is already an American Citizen when we started the process for K1 though he hasn't change his passport yet ( or renew) he is still holding the Canadian passport. But we were able to complete our K1 document by sending his naturalization certificate copy ( front and back), right now he is on the process of renewing it, so he can have his what we called blue passport ( US PAssport ) , we were out of budget few months ago and we have to prioritized filing the K1 instead of having the US Passport.

Hi,

For what it's worth, adding my $0.02 in case others encounter this issue. I recently submitted my I-129F application and ended up submitting my passport as proof of citizenship, although I'd planned to use naturalization certificate. Instructions for naturalization certificate are to submit copies of front and back of certificate. My naturalization certificate is blank on the back so didn't make sense to me to submit a blank page. To avoid RFE I submitted passport page copies instead.

I red that a lot of people took copies of both sides of the certificate as instructed and on the empty side they stuck a sticky note on which they wrote "this is the back side, its empty"

I wish I'd known that :) - my package would have been much lighter without copies of all my passport pages. This is an eaxmple of what frustrates me with govt instructions. If the back is blank why instruct people to photocopy a blank page? I'm sure this causes a lot of confusion - I for one, assumed that I had an outdated Naturalization certificate. They should have said provide back and front copies, even if back is blank.
