My fiancé and I have had an absolute disaster. I am here in the US waiting out the process with him. My application is on it's way to the Vancouver consulate and all is good with that. Two days ago my wonderful dog (who is here with us) went blind. She's having tons of tests and we have no idea what's going to happen. I had planned on heading home mid May to deal with my house and finish our process. Has anyone ever switched to AOS so late in the process, successfully? At this point I can't even contemplate making the trip back with her, I don't even know what condition she'll be in. This is a young dog with no previous health issues. My fiancé has been great with this even though it's an enormous expense, and me a total frantic mess. Where I'm from your dog is a family member but I know things are a bit different here. Any ideas what to do? Thanks.

Im like you with my dogs, sad to hear about the sickness and I hope your doggie get better, maybe an optical nerve thing... thinking about her! If the case is already be sending to Vancouver, why dont you stay as long as you can here in the Us, and go back for the interview as planned, maybe leaving the doggie in a hospital or health center for a few days under medical surveillance??? and wait until you AOS to fix things at home?!?! Good luck and the best wishes

I have to drive back and then there's at least a week while there to do the consulate stuff. I don't know how I can take my dog to the city to do the interview and everything. I wish it was as simple as a nerve, her retinas have come off, you look right through her eyes to pools of blood and nobody can tell us why. This might be the only thing or just the beginning of something far worse. Honestly I would give her one of my own eyes if it would do any good.

You can do a concurrent AOS filing now.

Though, you will pay a lot more, $1490 + a medical, plus the I-129F fee you already paid.

If someone could watch the dog for a week then you could just go back and do the K-1 interview and come back.

I hope your dog gets better. Best of luck making your decision.

Thanks Harpa, I don't know what we'll do. Lots of praying for sure. My dog has been with me through a ton of tragedies and I can't bear to leave her in the middle of her own disaster. Do you know if I'd be able to do medical here in the US for my k1 or does it have to be Canada? Then I could just fly back for a few days. At home I live a fair distance from the medical place.

I went back to Canada for my medical and interview in Vancouver, and was there and back within a week. (BTW, doubtful that your statement that the way people feel about their pets in the US is "different" is accurate.)

Oh God, Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. We're in the middle of farm country where people shoot strange dogs on sight. We haven't told anyone about this as they'd think us insane to spend money on a dog. When I first came I was horrified at the amount of roadkilled pets laying on the side of the road. Somebody actually told me "the thing about dogs is there's always another one".

No offense taken. I grew up in Canadian farm country, and the attitude there was/is much the same, so I guess it's more of a farm-folk/city-folk difference than a US/Canada one.

I have 2 cats, raised them just like my own children. My husband (my then-fiancé) spent thousands of dollars to bring them with me from my home country, Indonesia, traveled 23 hours across the globe so they can be with us. I know your feeling and understand your point of view. Some of my friends wondered why I am willing to sacrifice everything to raise these cats ( go to pets store, vets, clinic, buy expensive cat foods, toys, etc). They are not even expensive cats. I found them on street as kittens. But, no one knows how much I do love them except my husband.

Definitely, husbands (or wives) of pet people are very special. Talk about the test of a relationship. Mind you, my dog adores hubby-to-be, sleeps under his recliner. He gets double the loves!

Medical for your K-1 has to be done in Canada, unfortunately.

What a sweeping generalisation. There are people in every country who love their pets, and people who believe they are accessories or worse. It has nothing to do with nationality and a lot to do with the inidividual.

The K-1 medical must be done in Canada. An AOS medical is available in the US, but they can't be swapped.

Maybe you missed it, but OP has already explained where she was coming from with this.
