We're K1, already applied for AOS, received the work permit. In January, she also received a social security card with the words "valid for work only with DHS authorization" on it.

So far have been two cases where her social security number isn't recognized. The first time was when I tried to sign her up for health insurance on a state website (nystateofhealth). It kept saying it couldn't verify her number. The second time is on the state tax return. We filed jointly, and I got a letter from the IRS saying they cannot verify her number either.

Has anyone else experienced this? Now that she has a social security number and the work permit card she'd like to begin looking for a part-time job. Before I start making phone calls I'd like to ask if anyone is familiar with this.

Thanks!

It happened with mine enrolling in the health insurance, it took like a week and a half to go through but it did. My opinion is that since they are new numbers they need the time to be in the system, what she could do is to check online her social security information, if there is a problem the most important thing is to go to the ssa office to fix it

I love you Charles forever!!

N-400 Waiting to be schedule for Oath Ceremony

Posted (edited)

As stated, with newly-issued numbers it may take a while to promulgate through various systems. In the early days I had to send a copy of the card to the relevant organisation a couple of times, because they also said the number couldn't be verified. Now, a couple of years later, that doesn't happen anymore.

For taxes, you have to paper file the first year. No efile.

For health insurance, you may have to send a copy of the card to someone.

I didn't know about the self-check. I just tried it for her but I get a message that "we are unable to give you access to the Self Check service at this time because the third party identity assurance service was unable to generate enough information about you in order to create a quiz to confirm your identity. The information you provided has not been checked against U.S. government databases for employment eligibility." They give a few reasons, the most likely one being "You may not have enough of a financial footprint for enough questions to be generated." Useful site, though. I didn't know about it.

In any event, the New York tax people make it possible to reply to them online, and I was able to explain and also upload a copy of her SS card. I'll also forward a copy to the health insurance people.

Thanks so much for the help.

I also still can't take the e-Verify self-check yet.
