Yeah Cary! Try making some sense. You going senile now that your into your senior years?

At my age, I'm no longer required to make sense, thats for you young people to make. I can act like I'm three and everyone needs to respect me any ways :jest:

thanks. I think I missed that one by very little. If my background was more medical not humanitarian...I think I would have had it. Found some job offers in the same place with offers that are less medically related or lower level that would allow me to learn the necessary skills ....and applied...hoping...

or just get sony ericsson like I have from 10 years ago, no functions..just call and message..it is great and tiny :D

Good luck with those. I really hope you get one of them.

There's something to be said for the simplicity of a cheapo cell phone. But I could never go backwards from a smartphone at this point.

thanks, I hope so too :)

I had a smartphone at some stage and it sure was helpful when I got lost in Prague or when I travelled and needed to change train tickets or whatever so I know what you mean especially if you work and do things...smartphone is very useful.

In need of annoying foreign spouse advice.

When hubs and I moved, I made it clear we would be sending no stipend or expensive gifts back to the homeland, except on the occasion that we'd go back to visit, in which case we could bring back gifts (though nothing outrageous, like tablets or smart phones). At that time, hubs agreed. Recently MIL has been nagging for a smart phone and now hubs wants to cave and buy her one. It would need to be an unlocked version, which is always more expensive. This would also imply we'd pay for international shipping. I am absolutely against it and we got into a big argument last night over it. Please be aware:

1. Hubs' family lives perfectly comfortable in Ecuador. FIL has a taxi, both BILs have jobs, the family owns a private gym, they own their house, food is never out of stock, they have a computer, TV w/satellite, SIL has a samsung tablet, they all have cell phones, etc.

2. If they were really in need of something important (food, clothes, etc) I would be more than happy to help.

Hubs insists I "do not understand the cultural implications". Am I out of line for being unwilling to by my MIL an unnecessary luxury item when we're trying to save money for ourselves? How would you guys deal with this? Maybe some outside opinions can keep me from strangling hubs over this.

Buy a used iPhone 3S. Ship to Mother in law.

Inform Hubs of USA cultural implications. Marrying an American does not mean immigrant has won the lottery. Assisting with needs are one thing, buying very expensive luxury items which you can't even afford for yourselves so the MIL can show off is totally out of the question.
