before my mother retired, she was definitely a tiger mom. if we got 99 out of 100 for a math test, and the one mark was lost to carelessness, we'd get one smack from the cane on our palm or bottoms. 98, then 2 smacks, and so on. she wasn't mean or abusive in any way, she would hug and kiss us after and explain to us why she was punishing us, and it must have instilled fear of some sort in us, because after that, we were much more careful in our homework!

also, there was no such thing as 'not wanting' to do something. it was just 'too bad, just do it' and if you didn't, you got punished. don't want to eat dinner? ok, go hungry until you agree to eat the greens. don't wanna do chores? ok, just stand there until you're willing to help dust the furniture. no games or books or tv in the meantime, etc. no amount of crying or wailing would help.

one thing i've realised with my nephews is that they aren't afraid of being punished. they say 'whatever' if you revoke their tv or game privileges. we weren't like that as kids...i wonder what changed.

No one has brought out the cane.

With my youngest daughter, her punishment was to sit in a pink plastic chair. There wasn't even a set time as to how long, she could get off it when ever she wanted to. But she couldn't be crying, and if was because she wouldn't do something, it was to get off of is to actually do what she hadn't done before.

I had to laugh sometimes, she'd be sitting there screaming and crying, saying I don't want to sit in the chair, to which my response always was, you can leave it whenever you want, just stop crying, its totally up to you, followed by another batch of wails.

Why you bring drama from another thread huh?

Dang military men can't handle being civilians! I mean can you believe that? Maybe they're just being a drama queen.

There, now we got drama from another thread.

Came across small-minded whiny babies who can't handle the truth or facts.

Since when stating a FACT is being judgemental

So an update - I don't know what in the flying eff is wrong with uconn in general, but my husband's results came back from yale just fine, more than fine. Really bizarre. Basically the only thing that might be wrong with either us thus far is me being slightly insulin resistant and whatever is going on with the prolactin. The doctor put me on metformin which hopefully will help with the weight loss. I am so thirsty, I've drank 2 liters after tonight's dose.

So with the change in news, I guess we aren't doing IVF, but are lined up to do an IUI next cycle. *happy dance*

That's great to hear! :)
