The Philippines boycotts Chinese grown bananas as a result.

Actually the reverse happened. China refused entry into China of Philippines bananas, and millions of dollars in bananas rotted on the docks of China.

They took it to the International Tribunal on the Law of the Seas. A treaty both the Philippines and China have signed, but China has said they will refuse to participate. Philippines would get its butt kicked in any real military engagement.

This picture (the red line) shows the South China Sea waters, China had decided is there's. The blue line is the 200 mile economic zone world treaties have set. China is currently putting an oil rig in Vietnam waters right now.

It was the realization there is a bunch of oil and gas in those waters that kind of got China into deciding its all there's.

OK, so basically China simply doesn't care about international waters and claims them all as the China waters? Am I seeing this picture correctly?

That is exactly what they have done. They say since China traders plied them waters centuries ago, its all there's. Of course that ignores all the other country's traders who also plied those waters, but China is the big power. I get a kick out of the extension in Malaysia, they've got their line down less than a mile from Malay land mass.

Better question is would America really defend the Philippines? We haven't proven ourselves very effective in any of Asia save using nuclear weapons.

And she still eats it here, unless she is one of those change after marriage types. "Oh look at me, we are dating and I am so adventurous" and then all serious "Ewww" after marriage. Yep.
