Satanic group reveals crowdfunded monument for Oklahoma State Capitol

A Satanist statue cast in bronze is just months away from completion, and activists hope that it will find a home on the lawn of the Oklahoma State Capitol. Ultimately, the statue — which features the seven-foot tall, horned figure of Baphomet fawned upon by two exultant children — is intended to stand directly next to a highly controversial monument of the ten commandments that was donated by a state legislator in 2012 and subsequently placed on the grounds of the Capitol.

The pagan Baphomet figure, complete with a goat head, angel wings, and a beard, comes from a recently-formed New York group identifying as The Satanic Temple, which raised over $28,000 on Indiegogo earlier this year to commission a sculptor and create the piece. Satanic Temple spokesperson Lucian Greaves tells ABC News that the statue is a symbol to "celebrate our progress as a pluralistic nation founded on secular law."

We're just now getting our first look at the what the statue will look like, thanks to images of the mold released by The Satanic Temple this week. Unfortunately for the group's activist aims, there hasn't been much progress on securing a spot for the statue at the Capitol in Oklahoma, one of the most Christian states in the US. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is currently challenging the ten commandments statue in court on grounds that it violates the Constitution's "establishment clause" against a national religion, and Oklahoma has prohibited applications for additional statues pending the completion of that case.

Greaves has made it clear that the group would no longer petition to have the statue installed should the ten commandments monument be removed, but he isn't concerned about finding somewhere else to place the statue should they fail to get permission in Oklahoma. "There are no shortage of public locations across the US where religious monuments await a contrasting voice," he tells Vice, which first published photos of the statue. And they're prepared should demonstrators destroy the statue: they're holding onto the cast and plan to take out an insurance policy on the statue.

Haha that was funny. We all have our different views. And the Ten Commandments actually make sense even if it is not used in biblical terms.

Well, the Ten Commandments do make a lot of sense. But that is not the issue with this statue.

I believe the problem is that the US has separation of church and state, yet many gov. buildings have these sort of statues. Having a religious doctrine on the grounds of a state building are obviously not keeping them separate.

I also think I recall that this statue in OK was donated by some sort of religious group, donating a religious statue for a state building.

So a group of people with a different religion are making a statue with plans to donate it, just like the other statue! They are trying to point out the inherent hypocrisy of this statue donation stuff.

And, from what I understand, Satanists don't really worship the devil or want to do bad. They just call themselves that to be shocking, mostly.

I think the statue is pretty funny, myself. Would love for it to be at a capitol building.

Actually, if the hatey VJers were worshipping this statue (or the beliefs associated with it), I think they'd be a lot nicer and less hatey.

Satanism, as practiced by tens of thousands of practitioners worldwide, is founded on the beliefs that intelligence is to be valued, children and animals are to be treated with respect as they are closest to our base nature and that people who perform acts of willful idiocy should be shunned or punished for it.

The Satanic Temple is a type of Satanism that's actually incredibly kind and has dropped a lot of elitism against stupid people.

There are seven fundamental tenets.

1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.
2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
3. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forego your own.
5. Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.
6. People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused.
7. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

As you can see, these are basically the nicest organized group of western-based atheists ever. But even if they were 'regular' Satanists, I've never met a practicing Satanist who claimed the religion as their own publicly whose heart was as full of hate as some of the people here.

Okay...so. .I have this idea I have been (as our POTUS would say) ..."evolving" =

& I will (try to) introduce in brief...,

All ancient cultures / civilizations refer to God(s) coming (insert picture of crazy haired Ancient Alien dude saying "up there") & teaching humanity how to ...live.

The oldest written history comes from = The Sumerians. (Yes.. I am holding out for India to produce something older ... which might happen = if any of the ancient cities under water off the coast have something ..etc....but.. for now)

= The Sumerians & they wrote - We the People were created by the "Anunnaki" to be slaves for mining & other misc. services.

Fast Forward - The Hebrew Bible tells us ...Satan showed up and tempted Eve with the gift of knowledge.

Seems to me - if I were a slave owner...I wouldn't like Satan teaching my slaves how to think for themselves.....& I think I would launch a world wide lifelong smear campaign against ..."him?"....& I might consider eradicating the human race if they become insolent...& I might have a son that leans a bit "sensitive" who says..yanno what?! I will die before I let you kill them!...& I might regretfully, in a bit of power tripping anger say...okay...prove it!
