I am back with yet another question so please bear with me...

My fiance is 18 years younger than me and in his culture it is very rare for a younger man to marry an older woman - I am assuming this will be brought up during the interview and am wondering if I should address our age difference in the 'how we met' section of the petition and how should I do so. What should Kumar say during the interview if/when it is brought up? For the record, this will be a first marriage for both of us and neither of us has any children - we have talked about adoption.

Anyone BTDT?

This is just my opinion. If you think you will have to address this at the interview then be prepared to do so at the interview. I personally would not try to address this in the petition. YMMV

I agree with Fwaguy. If it comes up at the interview, just tell the truth. Be prepared to show solid proof of your relationship and I think you'll be fine.

Good luck

I'm in a similiar posistion, because my fiance is 15 years younger than me, from India. I did NOT address the issue in my I-129F posistion. I don't think it will be much of an issue, but we are ready if it comes up at the interview.

You know i do agree with the others. BUT........

Its very possible that the couselor might notice it and question it. So addressing it in your application might keep red flags from waving. Im not sure if i were you that i would feel comfortably not addressing it at all in the application. and possibly - addressing it might appear more open and honest to the counselor.

Perhaps you could say something like "When we met we instantly became friends (blah blah more info here), despite our age differences we connected and knew we were meant for each other". something like that.

If it is brought up during interview the interviewer might addresses the children situation. I dont know how old you are but if hes 22 and your 40 the counselor might be wondering if you being 40 dont want any children but K being 22 might want kids. SO - having discussed this with your K already (discussing adoption and anything else you have talked to him about) would be a logical answer to the counselors. So it sounds like you have answered with each other the questions that the counselors would ask.

I also wouldnt pull your hair out over it.

I dont think its that big of issue.

Im sure that the couselors have seen couples with bigger age differences than yours!

I would not provide information not requested in the I-129F petition. Answer the questions asked, and no more. Age differences are not a reason for denial of a petition and there are specific criteria for approval -- 1) That the petitioner is a USC 2) That you have met phsycially in person in the past two years. 3) That you provide the other information required i.e. proof of citizenship, G-325A forms and payment.

It will most likely come up at the interview and you should be prepared to address it there.

No need at all to bring up the age difference in the I-129F. When it it time for the interview, you and your fiance should go over all possible questions. That way he will be prepared. Remember the CO only cares if the marriage is real or not. I will wish you good luck but you two won't need it...you will be fine

The last time I looked, the I 129f asks for the birthdate of the petitioner and beneficiary. So this 'don't bring it up' idea is a bit asinine.

Will it cause a problem at the petition stage? Not likely, but what is the alternative?

Just prepare yourself with good evidence of a bona fide relationship to have with your fiance at the interview.

Right - so the age difference will be obvious. But at the petition stage, this should have zero impact assuming solid evidence of having met in the past is presented.

At the interview, yes, clearly it will come up for discussion, but no need to discuss it or attach any explanation with the I-129F petition - it's not required.

Cool, good to see someone in a similar situation from a similar culture!(some would say same culture but Kumar would not be happy if I said that, Nepal likes to be different...lol  ) I wish you both luck and please keep me posted - I will do the same.

Thanks didi!

I think rather than not mention it at all I will just briefly mention it like you say. To be honest Kumar thought I was about 27 when we first met... :D It was a bit awkward telling him the truth but like he says the spirit is ageless and the body just goes along for the ride.

I love your photo - you two look so happy together, and after what you went through I csn imagine you would be... I will reply at your other thread but have been busy as you probably can imagine - my task for the MLK Day weekend is to assemble my photos, receipts, etc. Kumar has a good friend who is a Brahmin priest and I am wondering if it is a good idea for him to write a letter attesting to the validity of our relationship - the 3 of us spent a lot of time together when I was in Nepal. When we were planning on a wedding in Nepal we were hoping he would marry us... :(

Yes, they are similiar cultures! I will keep you posted. Right now I am trying to have patience waiting for the NOA2- PATIENCE, the biggest thing I guess I learned from my years in India  ...and keeping busy gathering info for the next steps. Good luck for the two of you!

I agree, don't mention it in your 129-F. In theory they are not allowed to make judgements of your suitability as a couple. Age difference is not supposed to be a factor. In practice they feel there is more potential for immigration fraud in cases like that so they may ask a few more questions in the interview if they choose to. If you know each other and have met the requirements you should be fine. Just for the record, my fiancee is 38 years younger than I am so I will deal with that too.
