Plenty of people with pending immigration petitions have gotten student visas.

They go home after finishing and wait for their immigration visas.

I agree, but she is the only one who has left in family in her home country. To the op I suggest your sister should get into well known medical school if she wants to get F-1 visa, if she is to get into famous medical school, her chances of getting F-1 visa will be pretty high despite lack of ties to home country.

It will look odd when she has a Masters doing a bachelors.

You will know what ties she has better than us, we only know what you have posted.

I did a quick google seems you would be looking at $400,000 plus, but if you have the money go for it.

She got an academic scholarship that paid for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from a university in China. She has been studied in China for the past few years, and she will return to Vietnam soon. She can explain to the consular officer her personal reasons to study Chinese language. She is doing the bachelor's to prepare her for further education.

I do not have $400,000+ right away, but I have a way to pay for her tuition. I am not paying alone.

You hit the nail on the head! That's what I am concerning. I do not see anything that would bring her back to Vietnam if I was a consular officer.

My brothers are still in Vietnam, but they are married.

That is probably a confusing factor, currently she wants to do a Science degree. Which may lead to a Medical Degree.

The medical school admission requirements in Vietnam and in USA are very different. I like the admission requirements in the US better.

I don't think a student can apply directly to medical school in the US without having the prerequisite courses, MCAT scores, interview, etc. Having a science degree in the US will help her meet these requirements and increase her chance of getting accepted.

How do you know she doesn't have the qualifications for medical school? Have you seen her transcripts?

Even an English major can qualify for med school as long as he/she has the requisite science courses.

Med schools love diversity in their student populations.

I know several liberal arts majors who are now doctors.

I am sorry for any misunderstanding I may have caused.

My sister is qualified to study anything if she puts her mind to it. Her goal is not going to happen overnight.

The college entrance exams in Vietnam are held once a year. When I was still in Vietnam, each student had to apply to a university of interest before they graduated from high school. Students took three exams for the fixed group of subjects they selected.

My sister took Literature, English, and Mathematics (It was called Group D exams). She got accepted.

Students who want to apply to medical school will have to take Group B exams, which include Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry.

My sister's old scores are expired. If she wants to apply to medical school in Vietnam, she has to re-take Group B courses. she is still in China so she will miss the examination this year anyway.

If she studied everything in Vietnamese, she would have a hard time to adapt to the working environment in the US. Studying in the US will be great for her, but if she could not do obtain the visa, she would have to figure out something else.

A Bachelors is only going to cost 20 or 30k a year, so for the immediate purpose she only needs to show she has access to those funds.

She will be explaining she wants to study in the US for the reasons you mentioned so she should be prepared to substantiate where the funding is coiming from for a Medical Degree.

I only have a bachelor's degree so my income is average. I have no debt. My sister would not have to worry about room and board if she came to the US.

Can another person co-sign to provide financial support for my sister? (The person who agrees to co-sign has proof that she is able to pay for my sister's study in the US, even for medical school.)

We answered this before, somebody else can provide the funds, it doe not have to be money she currently has.

Teh amount needed will vary by Uni, but you for example could send her the money.

I talked to the director of the international admissions at the university.

He said my sister would have a difficult time getting the F-1 visa. However,he still encourages her to submit her transcripts and other documentations to the university for admission consideration. I need to show them that I have at least 21k in the bank.

I also called another person at a different school and he said my sister still has good chances of getting the visa??? he said he would probably accepted her to the school. He also will provide letters, I-20 and some other paperwork for her. I need to show at least 25k in the bank for this school.

I hope my sister is lucky to get accepted and be able to obtain a visa. I will at least try.
