China demolishes massive church after dispersing Christians who came to protect it

A few days after an expert predicted China will have the world’s largest Christian population by 2030, local officials in Zhejiang province’s Yongjia County ordered the demolition of the enormous Sanjiang Church. The church, eight stories high, reportedly cost 30 million RMB ($4.79 million) to build. In September 2013, the building was deemed a model engineering project. On April 28, it was torn down after paramilitary forces dispersed the Christians who had gathered to protect the building.

...

Local government officials said that the church was in violation of building codes, and was slated for demolition in December of last year as part of a larger crackdown on illegal buildings. A Yongjia County spokesman told CNN that the church’s “building area should be within 1,881 square meters, but they built 7,928 square meter illegally.”

...

Church leaders, however, claimed that they were given only a few days’ notice of the planned demolition. They further said that the church had all the relevant government approvals, and was being targeted simply because it was a massive symbol of the country’s Christian population.

The U.S.-based Christian advocacy group China Aid claimed that the Sanjiang Church became a target after Zhejiang Party Secretary spoke out against churches in the province being “too conspicuous.”

Isn't CNN supposed to be looking for MH370? Time to generate some news in China from a non-news story.

I'm trying to understand how one can be an unwavering supporter of Chinese and Israeli government policies at the same time. It would seem the two are at odds with each other.

ETA: Actually thinking about it for a minute, I see the similarities. They both seem to love demolishing buildings when they're related to religions they don't like. It makes sense now.

Figures you would accept the Communist Party spin as gospel truth.

CNN finds an easy sucker audience in America buy this kind of ####### story without questioning the credibility of the source. Chinese people are very vocal, and in particular the Chinese Christians like to squawk to American news media who write these kind of stories without verifying it. After the story runs, the Chinese Christian group is showered with money and gifts.

You see, when China wants to build a road or a new building, they provide several months notice to the property owner that their property will be demolished and pay them the current market value, or buy another home at an agreeable location. This is one of the many reasons they are kicking US #######. In just a few short years China has built the largest and most complete network of high-speed railways in the world. In the US it takes years just to initiate the paperwork to fill a pothole in the road.

We all know that christianity is taking roots in China and that christians in that country enjoy far more freedoms than their persecuted counterparts in the USA. We all know that in terms of religious freedom and democracy, China is sencond only to Russia!

But VJ told me that Christians in China were more free to practice their religion than in the US :(

Me too. I remember seeing several posts exulting the unabridged religious freedom in China.

So Ashely Brilliant, what Christian church do you regularly attend in the US and what Christian churches in mainland China have you recently attended? Looks like you've been using rectal cranial inversion to get your facts.
