Hello everyone. I am a new member here (I have been gathering information from here for a while now, though) so please forgive me if I am asking for information that has been covered before.

My American fiance and I are in the process of applying for a K1 visa (the first application was sent in February 24 of this year). We have received our NOA2 and I believe my packet 3 stuff arrived at my home in Canada today (someone is mailing it to me on Monday). The problem is that I am visiting him in California until the end of the month. So now I don't know what to do about the DS-160. The sample form I found online says to fill it out and send it in immediately but I am not in my country of residence. I assumed that would be an issue but I am not actually sure about any of this DS-160 stuff. It is the only thing so far in this process that has really confused me and I am getting impatient (even though everything has gone very quickly so far). If I can do anything now I would love to know because it feels like I am setting us back by month by staying here.

Thank you for any and all information.

I'm also in the US waiting til it's time to go do my interview. I've been chipping away at the DS160 online. I already checked in Canada before I left that I could get my police report over the counter so that's ok. I emailed the consulate asking them to send the packet 3 by email, there was a post on here in the Canada section with the exact wording that someone else used. They did reply but haven't got my stuff yet. Absolutely everything seems so confusing and I end up overthinking and feeling like an absolute numbskull!

It doesn't matter the 160 form is submitted online and a confirmation page is to be printed and brought to the interview.

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

It was smart of you to check about your criminal record check first. I didn't because I didn't think the process would go this fast. I thought I had more time. I have had a criminal record check in the past (to work at a daycare and for foster parenting) and I don't remember it taking too long (I live in a small town so maybe that's why) so hopefully that happens again.

Are you intending to send your DS-160 while still in the US? I don't want anything weird to happen at the border when I try to return on June 1rst so I don't know what to do about it.

Everything seemed so easy up until this point. I should have seen this coming. It is rather confusing at this point, isn't it? I hope they get back to you soon.

Oh that is fantastic. Thank you. I was worried it would make things weird when I cross the border going home but I have a tendency to worry too much about everything.

re: the criminal record check When I called my local RCMP the nice lady on the phone did a quick check of the records to see if I could get the check with no prob. Apparently what happens is if somebody else has your same name and birthdate and a record then it takes longer. I seem to think it was going to be around 65$ and they print it right away. Because the ds160 is all online you can be in Timbuktu and it wouldn't matter. Thank heavens. You know, you could probably give your home rcmp a call and just get verification from them so you know for sure. There's enough stress to this process without the unknowns.
