Hello VJ's,

My friend came here in the US as single last 2010. Her mother petitioned her. And recently she got married last year 2013, she's having problem at her work concerning about her name on her greencard. When she got married she's starting using her married name. Her company asked her to changed her greencard from maiden name to her married name.

what should she do?

What form is she gonna use to change her status to married?

Can she just apply directly to US citizenship and changed her status as married and everything there? or she should get another greencard with her new name on it? How much does it cost and where should she file it? How long will it take for it to be done?

Thank you.

Victoria

if she came in 2010 she isn't eligble for citizenship until 5 years after the residence since date shown on her green card. To change the nae on her green card she needs to subit and pay for a new green card. I think the fee is about 400 if she moved when she married she also is required to submit a different for with her address on it ( that form is free )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Use her maiden name for work.

The company has non legal authority to ask her to change her green card.

Let her company see her marriage certificate and a copy of the state law allowing her to use her husband's last name.

Then ask the company to show her which law allows them not to accept her current card.
