My fiancee is about to travel on her K1 visa. I saw another posting where the traveler was denied boarding on the plane because he did not have a round trip ticket. Obviously a K1 holder does not intend to return. Has anyone else been forced to buy a return trip ticket when they had a K1 visa?

Thanks!

Round trip not required. In the post in question, the OP came back and said that the airline realized they were wrong.

AOS for my husband

There should be no requirement for a round trip. However, in a lot of cases, a round trip can be cheaper then a one way. We ended up buying the round trip and tossing the return portion.

As an aside, if she would be turned back for some reason. She would be shipped back on the airlines nickle. Might be why some airlines try to get people to buy a RT.

A round trip ticket is not required, I have never heard of anyone being denied boarding traveling with the K-1 visa. My wife had a one way ticket, you are fine to buy a one way ticket.

Except that it happened for real to a receont fiance from Egypt. The airline official was totally wrong, but she was the gatekeeper. The member here got her to realize her mistake, but this goes to show you that due to poor training or whatever, it can happen.

And yes it is sometimes cheaper to buy a roundtrip and refund the return trip (make sure it is refundable). Just crunch the numbers and see what the best deal is.

That is Egypt... this IS the Philippines ... I wouldn't mix the two events.

I agree with crunching the numbers and buy what is cheapest.

Yes I know, and while everyone I have dealt with in every Filipino airport has been knowledgeable and professional, it could still happen.

No it's not required. If the desk help is ignorant, (likely) ask for escalating levels of supervisors/managers until it's resolved. Arrive to the airport early in case something like that does happen.

Asia and Middle East ... One-ways seem to be cheaper... However to/from Europe mostly round trips are cheaper... But buy what is the best/cheapest flight that fits your needs. Occasionally there is an idiot ticket agent who does not understand, but when you bring in the supervisor, any confusion can be clarified...

I want to get one-way to avoid any screw-ups (i.e. appearing on the return flight's manifest when I never boarded - it has happened and people have been accused of abandoning their green cards as a result), but they're almost double the price of return tickets. I'm looking at £600 vs £1000.

I'm not sure how to cancel a reservation that has already been half used. United checks me in automatically on to the return flight.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.
