RFE e-notification but no RFE according to 2-tier IO on the phone?

I'm just curious if others have had this happened... I've received a lot of different and sometimes conflicting e-notifications in the past few days. the most confusing probably being card production on my I-131 and I-485. I can still see that on the I-131 when I log in but the I-485 has since changed to first, RFE and then the next day back to initial review.

I called and spoke to an immigration officer (got forwarded so not the first call-center person) who told me that my initial receipts had been re-sent (they were returned by USPS the first time) and that was it. She told me to completely disregard the online case status. I asked several times about the RFE notification and she said that there was no RFE, only the initial receipts.

should we not expect an RFE in the mail? I understand it's not normal that the online system does this but also, how often does it really happen that they notify that an RFE was sent but it really wasn't? should I just trust the IO on the phone?

obviously, there is nothing to do but wait to see what comes in the mail. I just thought it was confusing and also annoying to not know what's really going on.

yeah, the online status system is pretty unreliable. It was probably a good idea to make that follow-up phone call, but now as you say, all you can do is wait for the mail.
