Hi everyone! Please help and give me some advice, suggestions and opinions everyone...we would greatly appreciate all your thoughts. Thanks!

When entering the USA, the officer who I submitted my Visa packet who entered my first name wrong on the I-94. I did not find this out until I attempted to print out the electronic version of my I-94 to take to the Social Security office to apply for my SS card.

My first name is K Anne March - My I-94 only has "K" entered as my first name.

I submitted a copy of my I-94 with the incorrect first name to the Social Security office and will receive my SS card in 2 to 3 weeks.

The name on my Birth Certificate, Passport and Visa is correct (K Anne March).

I plan to get married to my fiance as soon as we know what to do about this issue.

What should I do to correct this?

Email the Embassy if you wish. They most likely will say not an issue and proceed ahead. My wife had a similar issue and they said the same and she had no issues.

What the SSA employee said about the name on I-94? I asked this because when I applied for my SSN card, the lady asked me about my name on passport as well as on I-94 whether I was born with the name - my name is quite different from common naming system-. I think you should be just fine as long as when you filled out the form, you put your first name as shown on birth certificate and visa.

I had the same concern when I arrived. The first name on my I-94 is not complete, so I called up CBP Deferred Inspection site near my area. They were able to change my name just by calling them up. After about 2 minutes from the call, I check my I-94 online again, and my first name was then changed already to the correct one.

Get info here: http://www.cbp.gov/document/forms/deferred-inspection-sites

-There's a downloadable excel file on the right part of the screen, where you can look up for your deferred inspection site. I know there are a couple in California, I guess you just have to choose the one closest to your city / town.

Let me know if this works for you too.

1) As long as you wrote your name according to passport or birth certificate on SSN application form you will be fine.

2)Now, if you want to correct your name on I-94, you can take an appointment at a nearest CBP Deferred Inspection Site, go there with passport, birth certificate and I-94 and request them to change your name. They will verify your documents and correct the mistake.

3) If you don't go to CBP deferred inspection site for name correction on I-94, then when you fill out AOS form I-485, there is a question asking you to "enter your name exactly as it appears on I-94". Make sure you enter exactly as it appears on I-94 (even if its not correct or misspelled) but attach a supplemental sheet explaining your name on I-94 has been misspelled or hasn't been entered correctly and your correct name as it appears on passport and birth certificate.

I was able to have my first name corrected with a phone call to the closest deferred inspection site. :)

She just told me she will use only the name appeared on my I-94 which is just ''K'' and incorrect. Hoping I can correct it before I get my SSN card.

Thanks anyways, God bless! :)

Contact your nearest CBP deferred inspection office to get the I-94 corrected, as was correctly advised by a couple people. They may have you go in person and bring documentation with you. Not sure why the Embassy was mentioned in this thread. They would have nothing to do with your I-94.

Hello,

I know this is an old thread, but hopefully someone can answer my question as it is similar.

My i94 has my given name as my given name + my middle name.

On the form i 485 question 25a-c is "Provide your name exactly as it appears on your Form I-94".

25.a. Family Name __My family name____

25.b. Given Name __My first and middle name___

25.c. Middle Name ______________

Should I call CBP / try to get my name changed on the I-94 to just my given name and not my given+middle together?

Should I leave the question as is or write my middle name in 25.c. even though that's not "exactly" as it is on the i-94.

Thank you.

Hi janandmatt, I have exactly the same problem. What did you end up doing in the end?

Thanks!

You can go to the POE where you entered, or if your POE is far away from where you live now, you can go to the nearest international airport to you and visit the CBP office there and they can correct your I-94. Mine was mistakenly issued with my last name twice (E.g. JonesJones instead of Jones) and they took care of it on the spot.
