Smear Culture Test

Hello,

I just wanted to know your thoughts about my mom's situation. My mom underwent the two month smear culture test at St. Lukes Clinic in Manila. They told her to call the clinic on May 7, 2014 to schedule her appointment with them. She is almost

done with the 8 weeks culture period. But here's the problem, my mom got a call from St. Lukes today (May 2, 2014) and told her that they found something on the culture test. But they are not 100% sure if it is related to Tuberculosis, so they told my

mom to call on May 13 instead of May 7. I am wondering why only now, when it is almost done with the 8 weeks of culture test. Or maybe St. Lukes forgot to inform us immediately after they found something on the culture test. Did anyone experience

this before?

I have read cases where it did take up to the last minute of the 9 weeks to receive a result that was positive for TB. So yes, unfortunately it is possible. So maybe they are waiting to see how the last week goes.. maybe the culture will end up being negative at the end...

She also may not want to scare you.... usually if they call before the 8-9 weeks its because it is an actual positive result and they call to tell you and schedule you to begin treatment about a week or two after the call.

(at least in the Dominican Republic that how it goes)
