Britain unsure about Japan’s claim to Senkakus, U.K. files show

I think it's relatively trivial personally, given that it's really only a border dispute with some sabre rattling. It's not like China has invaded. It's not even like there's even anything to actually invade.

One issue I see beyond the natural resources is that it appears that each island claim can help extend territorial waters.

There is also a tactical reason China might want it. Its the last island in the Ryukyu chain that ends with Okinawa - by possessing the entire chain you can make a "wall" to water travel in the area.

Obviously there is no climate for a blockade wall, but you never know what the future will bring.

Maybe the mod in question has a territorial claim to the Sentakus themselves?

My take is that VJ is run by the Chinese secret service on a server stuck under some bureaucrat's desk in an old nondescript building in Beijing and discussing the islands 'that must not be named' irks someone high up in the Central Committee.

That's why I cunningly misspelt the islands as the Sentakus to avoid the islands apparent filter of doom.

Something is going on in that part of the world, shifting balances of power. Reckon there could be a major global conflict sometime in the next few years.

Here's the official answer from TBone in the site-related forum:

Some reasons aren't always apparent, but the rationale would be acknowledged and perhaps readily agreed with if it could be revealed.

Hope that clears it up for you.

That is amazing.. Could be an answer to a question about OBamacare or global warming.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Some Chinese Americans protesting about the Senkakus which they know as the Diaoyu Islands. Maybe one of the VJ mods is in the front row.

I find it reassuring that they protest about the real issues like a few small lumps of rock in the sea rather than minor problems such as censorship and the lack of fair trials.

I totally misread what it says at the bottom of that red banner.

Is this for real?
