I have a question. My wife became a citizen of the US in February. We want to apply to bring her mother to the US. My wife has a 15 year old sister. I know this part, get the mother here and then have the mother apply for the daughter. I get that. My question is, my wife's mother lives in the Lugansk region of the Ukraine. Can anyone tell me what happens if we apply for a green card and then Lugansk becomes part of Russia in the middle of the process? If she is forced to then get a Russian passport will the US recognize that passport? Does anyone know?

As of right now that should not be a problem. There might be changes to forms that were filled out denoting citizenship and what not. However, the US is not denying immigration to Russian citizens. Could that change? Only God above can answer that question. You ask a good question, but there are way to many unknowns now. Personally, I don't think it will stop the process, but it might delay certain processes. Only time will tell. Good luck.
