  1. 1. Between Chinese incursions into Japanese waters, and their incursions into Philippine waters and Indian land as well, should the U.S. be concerned?

    • Yes. China is behaving like a bully. Bullies need to be dealt with before someone gets hurt.
    • No. China's manifest destiny can not be stopped.

How did China originally gain these islands (whatever you want to call them)?

Generally speaking they base their claims from maps dating back to the 1600s where its labeled as a part of Qing. They were considered way finding markers to Japan. As far as anyone knows no one actually lived on them until 1900 when the processing plant was established.

Japan's claim is from 1895.

The Chinese government never voiced an issue with the islands until 1971…a few years after a mineral survey. In fact there are letters from a Chinese Consul thanking fisherman from Nagasaki for saving some of his people off the coast of the islands…he refers to them as Senkaku in the letter.

So basically despite what you hear in this thread, the only reason there is interest in the islands is due to resources.

I bet if China did not have 100% gun control this would not happen

? They wouldn't be trying to take the islands?

No clue really, I was just bored with a multi-page thread with no race or guns

My in laws will no longer buy Japanese cars. Even though they currently own two. Haven't trade them out yet so I guess they're not that mad.

Perhaps they are waiting for them to wear out. If they are Toyotas, that make take a while.

Chinese citizens don't much like the japanese, who are very reluctant to travel or visit the mainland. There is a large supermarket in China, formerly called Jusco (renamed aeon) that the Chinese completely destroyed after Japan started behaving badly in the Diaoyu region. (TOS violation removed) cars, (TOS violation removed) people were targeted. They are angry.

You're doing gods work.

Very true. My family buys Toyota and Subaru. They keep on running until something external happens to them…like driving them through rivers, car accidents etc.

I have a 7 year old Mitsubishi and a 14 year old Honda Accord.
