They used to select names randomly under the 6 Geographical regions from the submitted application forms.
They are,

  • Africa
  • Asia
  • Europe
  • North America (Bahamas)
  • Oceania
  • South America and the Caribbean.

Applicants selected for the DV-2015 from the Africa region will have the case number starting with 2015 followed by AF and will be followed by the selected case number.

So a typical Africa Case number will look like this. 2015AF00005632.

The first selected person will get the 0000001 number and the rest selected in the region will follow in numerically.

Hello every one,

I'm from Iran. My CN is 7^^^. What do you think about that? Is it too high or okay?

Thanks

There's no way of knowing, but you can gain some insight by looking at last years' bulletins. You can check if they reached your number. Here's the link to the bulletins: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/law-and-policy/bulletin.html

Born in Romania, been living in the US since 2007 (F1 visa)

F1 visa 2007-2011, 2011-2016 - OPT received August 25, 2014

DV-2015 Selectee - Case Number EU30,7xx - Interview estimate: May/June 2015 (?) - Might try to do AOS though it looks like it might be worse this year

Hi guys,

I have a complicated case here, which makes me hesitate to move on.

So this was me and my sister's first entering the lottery and she was lucky enough to be selected, she has a CN of AS000028xx which I think is pretty low from reading the previous posts. I am guessing she would have an interview by the end of the year or maybe early next year?

So here is her case, she is a F-1 college student and is going back to our home country this coming August for a month. I know that the DS-260 will be available on May 19th and if she files the DS-260 before she leaves the U.S., will there be any issues when she comes back (since filing the DS-260 shows her intention to stay in the States)? If so, is it possible to submit the DS-260 or even start the entire process when she comes back in late September, would it be too late and delay her interview?

Also, may I ask if it is almost always that you would get the visa issued when you get through the interview, assuming the visas are not used up. I am worried that if the application get denied, her F-1 status would be affected. I would like to know all the risks before we proceed....

Would somebody please help with my sister's case? Any help is much appreciated,

I don't think that will be a problem at all !

She can fill up the DS260 just on time after 19th may and if becomes current the only heck is that she will have to come back for her medical and her Consular process (CP), and spend time ( 6 to 8 weeks) at home!

Now if she want to do AOS that its an other procedure...

And yes delaying the ds230 will delay your interview if you have a low number.

And yes if she fails at the embassy with the dv application they will probably dismiss her N1 visa because she showed intentions of immigrating !

I'm not an official or an attorney!

Its all about a guess work...

I'm just a DVHOLIC :)

No, the F1 visa will not get voided if she fails the CP interview. She just may not be able to get approved for a new F1 visa if she needs to apply for one in the future. She will still be able to return to the US provided she has an unexpired 1-20. At the point of entry, she may need to prove she has a strong tie to her home country and she still has every intention of going back home.

Also, she's better off waiting till she gets back to the US from her visit before filling out the DS-260 form.

Why such a long time? Since I'm in the same situation and I am planning to do the CP, I was sort of hoping I'll get to be done with it in a couple of weeks. The police records I can get instantly and if I schedule my medical exam before leaving the US... I think I'll have a job by then and I'm not sure how my employer will feel about me leaving for two months...

Because once you become current ie in june they will inform you in april and medicals will fall in may. So if your interview is for end of june you can count about 8 weeks but like you said you reschedule your medicals ! So you cab shorten your time frame !

Hm, medical appointments can vary. Some people can and do get them just a couple of days before the interview. I wouldn't at all think more than a couple of weeks is necessary.
