For women, the earliest would be a week or days after the last period (as long as there are no more spotting) , before the month of the interview. The USEM website advice is to have it done at least 5-7 days before the interview. It's really up to you. and as Hank suggested, Thursdays would tend to have a lesser crowd.

I got 2 vaccines only, 1 for each arm. The Tdap (for tetanus) vaccine pain lasted 3-4 days on my left arm (Normally, the nurse would ask if you're a left- or right-handed). The MMR vaccine felt just like a pinch and the pain was gone in minutes. Some who got 3 vaccines would have to get 2 in one arm. Don't worry too much about it, it's just gonna be like an ant's bite. ;)

There are a lot of things that determine what vaccines you get, mostly age and what med records you can show for what you already got. But it is the doctor's shot to call, and you have nothing to say about it. So show him the records and let the cards fall where they may.

While i have no specific experience with this, the consensus seems to be Thursday. You want at least one week before your interview to assure it will get to USEM. Although I have heard it said that the stuff gets there in 2 days, this is not the time to press your luck to see if that is true or not. Also do not go while you are bleeding because they will not be able to do the physical exam nor get a clean urine sample, and they will make you come back.

Hey All,

I'm unfortunately still trying to schedule my interview as there are currently no dates available... But can I have my fiance do the medical before scheduling the interview? Also lets say I have the interview scheduled a month down the road, can I have my fiance do the medical a month in advance (as opposed to a week). I want to make sure she gets it done as quickly as possible as I know some people get SPUTUM which makes you wait an additional 2 months

On the topic of SPUTUM does anyone know any health tricks to help with the X-Ray test? I've been reading that even people who are healthy still randomly have to go through the SPUTUM tests which sounds really unfortunate. All help is appreciated :)

The key is to do the medical at least a week before the interview, not a limitation or restriction to a week before. So you are fine to do the medical a month ahead.

There are no "tricks" with TB, TB kills, if you fiancee is found to have it be glad it was found and she will be cured.

Great, thanks so much Hank! I have to say, I've read (and bookmarked) your list, and think it's the most helpful one I've found yet in regards to process and all the details. Much appreciated!

If they find something suspicious in the xray, that is when they make you do the sputum test, which tells the difference between TB and just something that looks like TB. This may be the source of reports from non TB people who had to do sputum: People with suspicious lookng things on the xray that turned out to be nothing.

You can do the medical one or two months in advance; no problem with that. The only drawback is that your 6 month time limit to get on the plane and fly to the US starts from the day of the medical, but since most of us want to get to the US as soon as possible, it is not an actual problem. If you have already used up 2 of your 6 month allowance before the interview such that you are left with only 4 after you have your visa, most of us want to fly to the US a lot sooner than that anyway.

Good luck to the both of you.

P.S. Candy's turn at bat is in 10 days now.. Although she has already had this same medical 4 times already (OFW visas) and is batting 1.000, I still worry. So I understand your concern and everyone else's concerns too.
