What Can I Learn from CEAC Status updates?

Hi all -

My CEAC status has been "ready" since the file was passed from NVC to the London Consulate; normal and expected. I completed readiness 25 Apr and my medical is booked for 06 May. It seems the case was touched on 29 April, but status is still "ready".

Is there another status ('case updated', or something) I should be looking out for pre-interview? When can I ring DoS to find my interview date? Having heard that interview letters have a habit of not arriving, I'd like to find this important date out for myself!

Thanks all,

D

I surprised her with a proposal in Los Angeles, and this is how it went down!

I looked at mine this morning and it had a yellow triangle and says "IN PROCESS".....not sure what that means though

CEAC status updates were pretty accurate for me. Whenever I had communication with the US embassy in Jakarta, my status was always changed. After NVC received my file the status changed to "Transit" and then after the file arrived at the US embassy my status was changed to "Ready". Since most of times Indonesian applicants did all process by email or online ( we never received anything in mail from the US embassy), the changed constantly happened by showing recent dates a moment after the US embassy communicate with an applicant.

After I had my interview, my status was changed to "administrative processing" and 2 days afterwards it was changed to "Issued". I always on "Ready" status before my interview was done even though I had communicated with the US embassy several times.

When checking CEAC, I've been keeping a note of the 'status updated date', since it changes. Clearly this happens when the case is handled in some way, and this is what I meant by 'touched'. AFAIK this is what other people mean when they say the same thing.

This advice from the London K1 guide, which i've read several times over and still managed to overlook the info i'm after:

"Call the Visa Specialist Unit at the Department of State - (202) 485-7600 – when your “Case Updated” field on CEAC changes. This means one of two things – they've either received your online Readiness form, or they've printed and sent your interview date letter. The DOS will be able to tell you when your interview date is, just in case the letter never arrives or is late. It is a good idea to check with them because some have never received their letter."

I'm assuming 'case updated' field does in fact mean 'status updated' (maybe it changed recently, i'm not suggesting the advice is wrong), and hence at this stage I can ring DoS to see if they have my interview date.

Thanks again VJ. I honestly don't know how anyone survived this process with any success before this place.

PBJ--

DOS will no longer talk to anybody about their K1 status. It's an update at the end of the London guide. Your status is going to say "ready" pretty much the whole time from arrival at the embassy until after your interview. The date normally changes if they get something like a form or medical file, answer an email, or send an interview letter. All a guessing game really. After the interview it will likely say Administrative Processing (working on paperwork, waiting in the queue to be printed) and then Issued (printed, celebrate, fret about when courier will get it and deliver). Hope that helps. The updates aren't always dependable, so don't bet the farm on them.

You're ok - for what its worth, it took 8 days for our case to turn 'ready', which is in line with VJ trends. I've emailed the Consulate via the contact form and I will post back here when I know my interview date.

Thanks, as always Nick. I'll be able to relax some when I know the interview date. My impatience is being exacerbated by the uncertainty of my criminal record situation (full details in other posts), so i'm feeling extra keen for solid outcomes right now! It'll all be resolved soon, one way or the other...

Oh. Do DoS still around nowadays? I thought they won't process K-1 visas anymore - I read from another thread-. But, if they still process K-1 visas, that's a good news. I got my case number from DoS instead of NVC and waiting time is less than 30 minutes compare to NVC. They also have nice and friendly visa specialists and will answered your questions.

"Ready" on the status means they've got all the stuff ready for your interview. It won't change until after the interview, maybe a day later. Then it will say "Issued." At least, that was our experience.

My personal experience was it sits on Ready until after the interview, at which point it either switches to Administrative Process or Issued.

See below for what it will look like once the visa has been approved and processed.

I have been reading "my case was touched" here many times. How can i find out if my case was touched? I know how to check ceac. but havent seen such info there.

When your Status Updated Date changes, someone's done something with your case.

DoS doesn't field questions about K-1 status anymore and hasn't for some months. I think around December they stopped.
