We were May 12, still in initial review status.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)

What service centre are you guys at? We were at the Californian centre. Also, we have been together since 2006, and been to usa in 2009, 2010, and 2012/2013 to see my family. We also were married in January 2012, and built a house together in 2011, which we both have our names on, so the evidence gathering part was easy as we have years worth of stuff.

Now I'm worried it will go faster than I anticipated as we don't want to leave our home in Australia (which we need to list on the market and sale) until early January. If all goes to plan I would love to be on a plane to usa early to mid January with all loose ends tied up, but I dont want to delay the whole process either...

I'll keep waiting for the next step rather than press them for now, and I'll contact them if I don't hear from the nvc in a month or so. Should that be ok? Does the nvc contact us? I have read that we should contact them but I don't want to rush things just yet.

I also am at Nebraska. Which is depressing now because I had rejoiced SO HARD when I saw that we went to Nebraska, because it was the shortest at the time. But the waiiiiiiting. Urgh.

@lirpa - NVC sent me an email about receiving my package. Though it took them two weeks to tell me about it. If you don't hear anything after 30 days then call them. Don't be afraid to call them. Very nice people, just be nice in return. Also take there name down, reason being, one guy I talked to said I had to wait 30 business days which is over 6 weeks. If I hadn't been calling I would be ahead of schedule, would of gotten an email about paying the bill. Never feel bad about keeping on top of the visa.

Now with you wanting to wait till January to sell your home, I don't know what kind of buyers market it is out there, but from what I read you have around six months to travel on the visa. I think that has more to do with the medical interview, I think it has an expiration that if you don't travel with in that time you need to have another one done. Hope that helps.

Thanks, I'll wait a bit and then contact them to keep things moving.

As for selling our house, hubby wants Christmas here in Australia with his family before we head overseas where he will not see them for awhile. I'll have a look to see how long houses are taking to sale, speak to real estate agents, and list ours in a timely manner so it should sale around December (a bit before, a bit after). I understand the market can change and it could sale faster, or slower, but either way hubby wants Christmas here so I will give him that :-) we will, work around the rest of it

Hi everyone, as mentioned several pages back, we got our NOA2 and are getting everything together for the NVC stage. Well, trying to. Turns out doing my back taxes was not as simple as I thought. But anyway, I have a question about AOS stuff that I posed in Processes and Procedures, but I only got one answer and I'd love to get more info. My quandary:

My job won't be continuing after we move, so my father is going to be the joint sponsor for my husband. What I'm trying to figure out is what still needs to me included in the AOS package regarding my own finances. I do think I read somewhere that in my situation I need to show my tax returns (working on that...) but maybe not anything about my income/assets? If I don't have to bother with that stuff, it's just as well. I mean, I can get an employment letter here in Vancouver but if my job will end when I leave, that seems pretty useless. For my father of course we'll show all monetary and other assets, as well as tax returns.

I do apologize as I know this is pretty standard stuff, but I can't seem to find an answer through my many searches. Feel free to link to a thread that answers this question (I looked already through the best wiki guides and gov pages....)

Thanks!!!!

As best I know from people I talked to about the AOS, always give them the information they ask for, at the minimum. Give them your tax information even if your job is over by the time they get the information. Anything to do with getting a new job, you submit when they ask for it, or when you update your visa information. If your father is helping to sponsor, then you need his tax information as well. Hope that helps you.
