Obtaining police report using NoA1 (aka Form I-797)?

I read that it is required to show NoA2 documentation to get the police report for the NVC phase (at least for Japan).

Another sources specifically says the following is required:

“U.S. Embassy dated “Immigrant Visa Instructions” or request for a police certificate. If you have an I-130 petition with NVC in the U.S. and received DS-3032 (Choice of Address Agent), NVC will send an applicant or agent the instruction package. Please follow the instruction by NVC.”

I was wondering if anyone has been able to get the police report using just NoA1 (I-797)? (in Japan or anywhere). It can take a few weeks to be distributed by the police and I would like my wife to get it ASAP in case our I-130 gets approved soon. Plus, it is to my understanding that DS-3032 is no longer used so I am thinking that these instructions are probably out dated. Any help is appreciated.

My reply may or may not apply to your situation. My gal, a filipina, then an OFW in Hong Kong needed her USCIS interview letter/email in order to get her "Police Report," from the HK police for her K1 interview. But, I will add that she also had to get "police reports" from Shaghai (sp?), China and Taipei, Taiwan and no interview letter/email was needed. But to be honest, you may or may not be able to get away with the NOA1 for a "police report.

Well, I suppose it is at least worth a try. Worst that happens is we show up to the prefectural police headquarters and they simply tell us that we need to come back with different documents. I just thought I would ask to see if anyone else has had luck with this before going there to try it out.

My wife is going to the police to try and get her police certificate for the IV package today with the hard copy of NoA1. I don’t know if it will work but it is worth a try.

One thing I heard though is that the police certificate is issued to us sealed and we aren’t supposed to open it. If this is the case, how are we supposed to translate it into English?

Before you get too concerned about translations, have you found out what document translation requirements for Japan are?

If translations are required, can you ask the issuing authority to include a translation?

You won't want to open a sealed document as that will likely invalidate it and you would need to obtain another one.
