Once we get our NoA2, it is to my understanding that we have to call NVC to find out if they received our case and to get the case number. My wife and I live overseas so calling the US is expensive and time zone differences make it difficult. Is it OK for someone else (for example a family member) to call and inquire on our behalf if they can provide information about our case to the operator at NVC? Or do we have to do it ourselves? I’m just trying to plan ahead. Thank you

Unfortunately only the petitioner can call, or the beneficiary can call IF the petitioner is with them at that very moment. I would suggest buying skype credit.

Mail to nvcinquiry@stat.gov also works and generally they respond within two/three days. Make sure you provide Receipt No.:,Petitioner's Name, Petitioner DOB , Beneficiary name , Beneficiary DOB. This worked for me when I filed K1 Visa ( which unfortunately got denied at the embassy) . Now waiting for CR-1 NOA2

Oh I see. That’s a shame. Thank you for the heads up though. So calling their number using Skype is the best method? I will look into getting some Skype credit.

This is incorrect.

For the PETITION only the USC can call the USCIS. Either petitioner or beneficiary can call the NVC after petition approval.

OP: Once on this stage you can try using Magic Jack or Skype or Google voice for cheap or free rates to call the USA.

2-3 days is very quick. Most emails take 2-3 weeks.
