I met my husband 6 years ago. I was working on a road construction crew, I was a flag girl holding the big red stop sign. He was here in Canada on a work visa and was driving dump truck for the construction crew doing the road work. I had to stop traffic, he was the first truck in line, he got out, came up to me and said "Hey, how you doin" Corny I know, but I will never forget those first words. The accent he had and the way he said it was so adorable. We started to chat became friends and eventually went on a date. Our very first date we went to the movies and he fell asleep lol. A few months later his ex wife took his kids and moved back to MA with them, he tried to stay here with me for a while, but not having his kids was to hard, and he moved back to MA too. We got married almost 2 years ago in RI on the rocks by the ocean. My mom and kids came for the wedding, then a few months later we had a reception here in Canada for my side of the family. We had all 5 kids stand in our wedding, and one of his sisters. One of the best days of my life. We've been apart 5 years now, visiting each other as often as we can. Thank God this is almost over and we can finally be together.

Don't give up hope! Things can change from one day to the next. I called the 29th and was told wait 30 days. I called the 30th and case complete. :)

I am so disgusted that I have to wait another 2 weeks to get this birth cert thing sorted out... I could have called last night but I didn't even want to have to explain to another operator and hear them say 30 days blah blah blah...

I can only hope that they speed up the mail scanning. The computers being down lately will cause alot of delays for people who are sending in their first package because they can't print out the barcode coversheet.... Maybe this will speed up the checklist mail.

Love reading everyone's stories of how they've met :) I met my husband through work. It was my first real job after finishing university. We had our first 'proper' (ie non-work-related) conversation about 2.5 months after I started and started dating about 2 weeks later. 3.5 years on we were married.

I feel almost guilty but blessed when I read everyone else's stories as we've been able to be together throughout this entire journey. While the waits have been long, it's been so much easier being here with him. I can't wait to take him home with me for more than 2 weeks!

Hoping that Miss Joy will give me some good news with a case number when I call tonight! (7am Wednesday Eastern time is 9pm Wednesday night Eastern time in Australia - I spend all evening when I get home from work counting down until I can call!).

That is beautiful and so happy you don't have to suffer what we are without our spouses. And welcome this wonderful thread, you can't find a finer group of people if you sent out the troops to find the. ;)(F)(L)(F)

We met online - but not in a gaming site or a dating site. I lived in Hong Kong at the time, and my spouse is Australian. We were each friends with a US woman who was having surgery. She introduced us to each other via email so that we could let each other know the outcome of the surgery.

We were email friends for two years, then we each got webcams and started Skyping. I didn't want to fall in love, because, at the time, neither of our countries would have let us be together via immigration. But when we met in person in 2009, we knew we wanted to be a couple. Luckily, Australia changed its immigration laws in 2009 so that I could apply for a permanent residency visa. And then, when it looked like DOMA was going to fall, we went ahead and got married in the US. We applied for our I-130 the day after DOMA was ruled unconstitutional.

So we've been friends for 8 years, a couple for 5 years, and married for a little over one year. And we have done this across many many oceans and seas, and with many 23 hour transcontinental flights. Cathay Pacific and Korean Air have gotten a LOT of our dollars!

A record 3 minutes on hold and I spoke to Lisa who gave me our case number :D She was quite insistent that we wouldn't be able to log in and do anything, but she did give me the IIN and said to call back on Friday to confirm the email address they have on file.

I bought a DIY stamp last weekend and have been eyeing it off across the office the last few nights. I have now stamped just about every spare piece of paper with it so our case number is everywhere! Had to get some practice in before I get up early and stamp all the official documents in the morning... ;)

I don't have my case or invoice #'s yet but did buy a numerical stamp but will have to hand right the first three letters on the paper work. Wish they had one with numbers and letters. :D

skips a beat and I get nervous. I miss him so much, this process is just nasty. :(

Before I forget, here's a picture of my cat I adopted last week! We adopted from a shelter who rescued her and her 3 kittens found under a tarp last December from the cold. Due to the freezing temperatures, she got frostbite and lost the tips of her ears. But her and her babies survived (and were later adopted). It was her turn to finally get adopted :) Her original name was Topanga, but we (or rather, I :P ) changed it to Catniss ;)

We got out interview date (finally :D ) for June 18th.

Since we're using a lawyer (regrettably) we're kinda out of the loop a little bit. I'd like to update my timeline but don't really know where I can see when we got our case complete etc. We were checking the https://ceac.state.gov/ website but the only thing it ever said (and still says) is: At NVC. :help:

We got out interview date (finally :D ) for June 18th.

Since we're using a lawyer (regrettably) we're kinda out of the loop a little bit. I'd like to update my timeline but don't really know where I can see when we got our case complete etc. We were checking the https://ceac.state.gov/ website but the only thing it ever said (and still says) is: At NVC. :help:

call the NVC... they can tell you the date and when it will ship. The lawyers don't call the NVC to find out info.... they like to wait for an email. I personally don't have time to wait for my lawyer to take his good old time. I call regularly. My lawyer has been ZERO help in this whole process so far.. CONGRATS ON YOUR INTERVIEW DATE !!!!!

They won't accept the birth certificate? That's horrendous.. I'm worried about mine, because it's not as nice as the USA's Birth certificate!! I hope they get it sorted soon lovemytico.. they shouldn't be making you wait for something silly like this!!

Don't even get me started. UGHHHHH

so my husband feels bad. Last night he said he should have gotten a certified copy at the same time he got the Marriage certificate. Who knew the Original would be such a problem. People are starting to ask me at work why isn't my husband here yet.... Its starting to annoy me. I am so happy I am married but I am afraid to mention it because it requires so many explanations... I'm sad today..( more than usualy) :crying::cry:

Timeline

What a cute story! And congrats on case complete!! I'll never forget the first words my husband said to me. " hi! I am Mihail and I speak not so well English. " lol! Love is the same in every language though! :)
